Voted Up.
Some commentaries there are downright scary... a WCG rep goes to present there, but is suggested to speak about projects not running on WCG and do something on "real science", whatever that means. Whether a billion die annually directly or indirectly from unclean water, is that some figure from WHO? At that rate the world population is gone in 7. |

SekeRob, oops, great eye catching my embarrassing typo - it's actually a million people die of water-related causes and a billion lack access to clean water. I've fixed the mistake and I stand corrected. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention.
As for your comment about promoting non-WCG projects, yes, we can only speak to what we know about, which are WCG projects. We see this as an opportunity to showcase the *real* impact our volunteers make through WCG, but indirectly, it's really a testament to volunteer computing overall and citizen science in general. Haha I saw that 1 billion number and thought it was weird too but it was going to bed so I didn't check anything, just posted my own comment.
