Running Projects Issue

Hi all! I hope this is the correct place to post this and please forgive me if it's not. I'm currently having issues with my Boinc and don't understand why. It will only run two projects at a time and I've never seen this before. I know there's some awesome tech guru that will help me out plz? crying

I've run Boinc and WCG on many computers and I'm always able to run four projects at once but now on this other computer only two? It's running Mapping Cancer & The Clean Energy Project. I've looked into the settings and can't find an answer. Thx so much in advance for any help! blushing

Re: Running Projects Issue

Easy, your CPU has 2 cores therefore will run 1 task on each.

Re: Running Projects Issue

Tyvm Falconet!! :) Any way to fix this lol!? Any way to be able to run 4? I'm pretty sure he said it has two cores but I honestly didn't know what that all meant. I'd assume if he did have 2 he'd be able to run even more projects at once. If there's no way to fix this to run more projects? Tyvm for answering me anyways!

Re: Running Projects Issue

If your processor was hyperthreaded, then it could run 4 jobs (two per core).
However, your processor (Pentium E5400) is not hyperthreaded, so it can only run two jobs at a time.

There are technical ways to run 4 jobs. As with the mentioned hyperthreading, the tasks will run at half the speed. Additional overhead will make it less in your case, where a hyperthreaded CPU is designed to use the latencies in a system to fill with more computations. The result for those computers is about a 15% gain.

so, let me just be sure...u got this computer?
http://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/inspiron-one-19/pd

OK...to update that computer, there are some steps first:
1. be sure u have latest DELL BIOS on mbo
2. be sure your proc fill fit mbo & BIOS

from the same family, u have several faster processors:
http://ark.intel.com/products/series/37213/In...0-Series-for-Desktop#@All
but all those r dual-core...

but on your board is a G41 chipset...on that u could fit a core2 quad proc with appropriate BIOS & Power supply (only 130W in your comp)!
maybe one of these would fit & work?
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/core2quad/sb/CS-025351.htm
that would give u crunching a 4 tasks @ d same time... cool

but, I'm not sure which core2 quad would fit your Dell...why don't u ask Dell & pretend u want to buy a faster processor from them?

Like vcd683s said, that CPU has no hyperthreading therefore it can only run 2 tasks at the same time. There is a way to run more taks by modifying a BOINC config file but this won't give you more results, or runtime. If you did that and chose to run 4 tasks, it would just run 4 tasks at half speed. No real benefit at all.
