I have no idea if this is something that is allowed on the WCG forums or not, so please let me know if I am breaking any rules.
At the moment, I am running dual Xeon E5-2680 V3 chips in my main cruncher very happily, and am currently running about 12th based on RAC. http://boincstats.com/en/stats/15/host/detail/3243097 However, I am thinking of upgrading the chips to 2695V3 or better chips. In an ideal world, I would spend the cash and build another cruncher, but I can't afford that amount of capital investment (in the short term) nor the running costs (in the long term). Sooooo, I would have to put the 2680 V3s up for sale on something like ebay but I would like to see the chips used for crunching on WCG. Is there someway of doing this? |

Allowed or not, I would love to have them if I had anything to run them in. I dont think its a bad idea that someone starts a used hardware forum where WGC members can sell outdated equipment to one another As long as WCG incurs no liability for any potential scams, I think its a great idea. You know what they say....One man's trash is almost always my treasure :)

What sort of price are you thinking of? With ES 14C and 16C CPUs available for about $450 and $600, respectively, I'm tempted as long as it's good :)

Skivelitis2 - Yeah, that is my thinking. As the years have gone by and people like oldchap have helped me to dip my toes into ES chips, I am enjoying the experience and would love to help others out. As you point out, if this is ok by the admins etc, the whole thing would have to be done in a secure manner.
ASI - Where are you finding those chips at that price? Because I would love to get them at those prices. I was originally thinking of $1000 for the pair, but if your source is that cheap, then I may have to rethink that. Also, Norway! Oslo? |

I really like the idea if they come at a good price. I'd prefer Salt and Vinegar chips, but also like Sour Cream and Onion chips. In Family Size please.

Ebay and the [H]ard|Forum For Sale board. Ebay for the 14c and a seller on [H] for the 16c ones. Actually in North Carolina in the United States, but I like to go virtual-country-hopping. My WCG profile has represented most of the countries in Europe at this point ;) ![]() |

KLiK, not a bad collection of stuff there. All you need is a new board and some DDR4 memory, which is coming down in price and you can do it. I'm using a supermicro X10 board and got the ram second hand for a good price (at the time).
A.S.I. - I found the 2683 V3 on ebay for about $450-$500 but the clock speed is so slow that my 2680 with less cores does better than it's 14 cores. 16127 vs 18403 on passmark. So that would be a step down. The other 14 core ones are, the 2695 and 2697. There is a pair of 2695v3 going for 1500 Euro or $1700 but bidding isn't closed yet. 2697s, are way more expensive, going for over $1000 each. I found the guy selling 16 core processors, but they all seem to be sold and I think buying a pair of them may have meant a new motherboard which I don't want to do as they are are from the E5-4600 series. And the cheapest I could find was about $1300 on ebay. So I think my dual 2680V3s are maybe even a bit cheap at $1000. |

I'm interested in 18-core v3, but they are too expensive ($1200 each) compared to 12-core v3 ($400 each) processors. Come summer we can expect v4 ES processors and they'll go all the way up to 22 cores. Then 18-core v4 will probably sell cheaper than today's 18-core v3, maybe around $800?
