What is the best air cooled CPU cooler for running WCG? Right now I have the stock intel cooler and it keeps my CPU running at around 70C. I don't know if that is safe for prolonged useage. I would like to get that a bit cooler if possible. Tjunc is 105°C for intel i7-3770...check here: http://ark.intel.com/products/65719/Intel-Cor...r-8M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz 70°C is OK! ![]() Yeah 70C is below the max of 105. I just don't know if 70C sustained forever is good for the CPU. ![]() |

Not a problem for me in the 11 years of 100% loading, but it is for the mechanical parts, the fans.

Not a problem for me in the 11 years of 100% loading, but it is for the mechanical parts, the fans. Just put several large 120mm fans on the back & everything is OK...my i5 in firm runs OK with only heat-sink cooler, front fan & PSU fan...no problems so far! & it's doing SETi@home on HD2500 & 4x WCG WUs! & itr also powers Quadro 2000 professional video card with CUDAs... ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Apr 11, 2016 6:59:28 AM] |

Yeah, unless you have a high tdp video card, you don't need many fans. I run a 2683v3 with a single 8cm fan and a dual 2660 with a single 14cm fan. Both exhausts are warm at best. If you run an i3/i5 only, you won't need more than the psu's fan.

I'd say, from my experience, the best coolers are NH-D15 or 14 from Noctua. Downside? Expensive! But then there will be lots of headroom for Overclocking and/or lower temps in summertime.
----------------------------------------Aftermarket retail Closed-loop water-coolers I do NOT recommend, because the pumps do not last long on 24/7 crunching. ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |
