Hello, so I've just started using BOINC on my Galaxy S6. I downloaded the app today and I am trying to get it working, but it is asking me for an account manager and there is no option for World Community Grid. What can I do? Is there a separate BOINC version for WCG on Android? I'm running Marshmallow if that makes any difference.

If you have the BOINC app open, there's the hamburger sign top left. Hit that. Then in the menu there should be a Projects option. hit that. Then right top there are 3 dots. Hit that and a "Add project by URL" should appear [mine is dark blue with black text]. Take that. enter https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org
----------------------------------------and hit the Continue button. Then WCG gets listed. Select that and the window to enter the email address you used to register at WCG, the WCG member name and password [as that to sign in to WCG forums] and hit Sign In (Register is for other projects where you can create accounts and add them on-the-fly). BTW, you said 'downloaded the app'... from where? It should be in the Google play store and install directly. The version I have from there is 7.4.51 [but then I'm on the alpha test channel]. Think the last official GPS available regular BOINC version is 7.4.43.

I have BOINC 7.4.51 and there doesn't appear to be any "hamburger" button anywhere that I can find - I'm running on Samsung Galaxy 6 if that makes any difference.
Any advice? |

Sorry, the 3 horizontal stacked dashes or dots are at times referred to as hamburger... its the standard menu indicator which even MS has started to adopt as are many other software vendors, a uniform icon across multiple OSses and platforms. Strange if you dont see it. Tried viewing in landscape?

Looked up a discussion and found one at stackexchange.http://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/30817/list-icon-vs-menu-icon where they also refer to it as the list icon or action overflow. Not clear, but it appears to me as a 'how much space have we got' to choose which of the 2 is used. Not seen both at same time though in same prog page...not important enough.

A thread was started over at Berkeley forums http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=11070
Is this the issue? What you get if you enter into the BAM screen i.e. select the big arrow right bottom? |

Try going back to 7.4.43, last official release. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.4.43.apk You may have to temporarily enable unsecured sources in the settings before installing. |

Thanks for the help.
It was the issue that you mentioned. For anyone else - here is what I had to do I downloaded the older version The file got renamed as .man rather than .apk So I installed a file manager so to let me rename Then click on the apk file and the odds asked me about installing apps from other sources. After I approved that - everything worked well |

Great. Now the one who started the thread needs to come back, and then we can mark the thread [RESOLVED].
I have actually a 3rd party package manager called APK Installer to do this 'other sources' installing, which has buttons to e.g. install APKs and Manage Apps. Not encountered this renaming to .man before. Could be a Samsung custom or a security software thing to prevent APK malware slipping in and install [posted an alert yesterday on this]. Make sure to set 'other sources' back to disabled... you just don't want anything sneaking in inadvertently by clicking on something in an absent moment. |
