Android TV boxes

Has anyone tried to use these devices? Quad-core Android boxes that can be quite cheap. Any success?

Going by this 5 day old code check-in https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/commit/d70064205256ca7d2865a6cb040d01c80d3df2b9 you will be one of the very first to try, once a new alpha build client apk is made available.

Re: Android TV boxes

So, are you saying the current BOINC client app doesn't work with these boxes?

Re: Android TV boxes

It looks to be a success. My Android TV box has returned a few results and the server accepted them.

The box I'm using is a Generic MXR w/a RK3229. I admit I've installed virtual RAM on an SD card, but other than that it's stock.

I wonder what a small army of these would do to crunching....? Remember those VCR tape storage towers? Just a thought....

Re: Android TV boxes

How hot does it get while crunching? Are you running all 4 cores?

Re: Android TV boxes

Although I don't have any temp probe on the CPU, the outer box is warm (90-100F). All four cores are running at 90% load.

Today's output only consisted of 7 results and 2200 points. But, get 9 more small boxes like that and stack them in an old vcr vertical tower....that would be a fairly good output for $300.....in a small space.
