So, I finally got my PINE A64 crunching WCG last night. Only 1 official result in so far, but at least it's running.
![]() I saw on the PINE64 forum someone else is planning to crunch on theirs, and there are some android box crunchers here obviously. Has anyone else encountered a bug whereby BOINC puts the display into portrait mode? My TV doesn't rotate that way, so I'm doing science sideways. ![]() |

Never heard of them before. Just looked them up. Looks interesting. What OS are you running on it? Android?

Yup, the non-rooted Android 5.1.1 build that they supply. Still has some kinks; arguably the orientation thing, as well as a flaky ethernet driver, but otherwise seems solid.

Are you able to only crunch OET and OpenZika since its an Android OS?

Interested in how much cooling you need to stop it throttling

Yes, only OET and OpenZika at the moment, but I'm cool with that as I have a windows tablet for the rest.
Cooling is certainly an issue. Been tracking it using CPUz. At first, it was throttling on and off to 1008 MHz (from the default ~1108MHz), even after I installed the small heat sinks that came with my power kit (intended for RPI3, so they fit perfectly). The CPU heat sink gets quite hot to the touch, so I know it's working, but it was still bouncing off 80 degrees. I then arctic silvered a couple of old voltage regulator heat sinks to the RAM and left it overnight. This morning, it seemed stable at 1108 (?) MHz and 78 degrees. I do hope to upgrade to a decent copper heatsink at some point, as I'm sure it's still throttling from time to time. |

I just finished setting up a 5 pine rig.
----------------------------------------![]() The boards are cooled with self-adhesive heatsinks and a 140mm fan at 800RPM. With passive cooling the CPUs throttle to 800MHz, with the fan they hover between 1100 and 1158MHz. Power consumption at the wall is 21-22W with a Blitzwolf 40W power supply. Add 1W for the fan and 0.5-1W for the switch. Based on this, it could be possible to run 10 boards from a single 60W 10 port PSU like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YRYS4T4?psc=1 ![]() |

I like that setup. My odroid uses a brick power supply, no microUSB. If it did, I would definitely look into stacking multiples like you did.

With a bit of soldering, you could run multiple Odroids from a PC power supply.
----------------------------------------![]() The biggest benefit of stacking was the single cooling fan, it's basically noiseless at 800RPM. I'm not sure an odroid stack could be run with small passive sinks and a single fan, I think those boards have higher TDPs than the 4W pine. ![]() |

Yes I believe you are right about the TDP on the xu4. I put an aftermarket heatsink and fan on mine since the OEM one they offered at the time was garbage, and it is much better at heat dissipation. I also built it into a small wooden box I found at a craft store and cut holes for 120mm intake and exhaust fans for it. Overkill, yes, but I didn't want it overheating. Works well. I was going to use it for my streaming rig, but it just crunches at the moment. Your setup reminds me of this pi cluster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_r3z1jYHAc
