Beating a Dead Horse??

I know this has been addressed in the past, but would like current info on getting work units. I have racked up 139 years of WCG BOINC, and over that time less then 2% is HSTB. I have turned of all other jobs (which pains me, as I looks over 100 days per day of doing that) and after almost 2 days did not get many new work units. So, is there an answer, or should I just leave this on to grind sllllllooooowwwwwwlllllly?? Thanks.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

Getting any work units for this project is a hit or miss proposition. Even the peolpe who have great fishing expertise only get a few. The reason is there are just not that may units to get in the first place. Here is the last 14 days of completed units:
Statistics Date Total Run Time Points Generated Results Returned
01/31/2018 0:361:18:13:42 1,561,176 847
01/30/2018 2:005:00:42:38 3,187,993 1,670
01/29/2018 1:344:05:45:14 2,981,159 1,691
01/28/2018 2:077:06:09:20 3,407,994 1,898
01/27/2018 2:163:23:13:18 3,856,668 1,826
01/26/2018 2:196:11:10:55 3,912,160 1,928
01/25/2018 2:104:07:02:27 3,703,378 1,919
01/24/2018 2:023:20:01:16 3,390,874 1,886
01/23/2018 1:292:18:33:28 2,802,572 1,589
01/22/2018 2:034:07:17:20 3,192,801 1,570
01/21/2018 2:030:07:02:33 3,235,765 1,685
01/20/2018 2:147:23:18:33 3,906,090 1,956
01/19/2018 2:160:06:43:47 3,933,874 1,994
01/18/2018 2:194:23:57:22 4,254,140 2,306

As can be seen, if tens of thousands of crunchers are after these units, the ability to get one is small. At this point, the scope of the project is way to small to satisfy the demand for work units from the crunchers.
Cheers

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

When a horse has been beaten to death, there are only two things you can do: Bury it or leave it alone. Why do you insist on trying to ride it. The horse is dead. Nobody cares. But here at WCG forums, trying to ride the dead horse will make you lots of friends who also like to ride dead horses.

and the reason the horse is dead has been answered many, many times in the forums.

So yes, there is an answer. Same answer. Nothing changed.

1670 WU spread across 228,000 hosts yesterday. No WU for you.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

I average 1-3 WU's daily w/o really trying.

Slow and steady with this one.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

Thanks to all who have replied. Glad to have confirmation that there is still no ''there there'' on this project. Will keep it in the background and essentially ignore it. It just doesn't make sense that there are 3 million proteins to fold for this project and so few work units available. Again, thanks to all.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

my 2c: with >= 6000 daily WU the fishing would be good and the horse would wake up. But alas this metaphor has been hibernating for six months, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

Although I can't recall seeing/reading it, there may be a valid reason as to why this project is 'going so slow', with a limited number of WU's/day - such as;
1) the time/resources it takes to generate new WU's
2) new WU's being reliant upon past WU's - and there having to be (manual) checks to ensure that unrequired/invalid WU's aren't generated
3) the server/bandwidth requirements to/from WCG and the project scientists
4) disc storage requirements
5) the processing of the completed WU's after we're 'done' with them.
6) any other possible issues not listed above and that I haven't thought of in the last few moments.

Yes, I know it's frustrating not to have a constant supply of WU's (I, very slowly achieved my goal of Sapphire by a lot of nurse-maiding my systems/setting up automated scripts to request tasks at 03 & 33 mins), but, providing that the project scientists are happy with the progress (and, I can only assume that they are), then there's not a lot we can do about it - apart from, that is, being patient.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

and finally we reach the culmination of this thread.

We have a user who now refuses to accept the horse is dead and wants to revive it.

once again, speculation triumphs over fact

Arquebus, lately I met quite a few people in real life whom I would have liked to smother in perfect sarcasm.
I realize that what I used was pretty amateurish

Do you give classes?

EDIT: One 'I' erased.
