For those who prefer to be notified here, and/or don't notice what's in the Notices tab of their client, the following text can be found at https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=569
We will be applying an important operating system update to our servers on Tuesday, July 10, beginning at 14:00 UTC. We anticipate that the work will take approximately four hours. During this time, volunteers will not be able to upload or download new work, and the World Community Grid website will not be accessible. No action is required by you, as your devices will automatically retry their connections after the maintenance work is completed. |

I never get any prior notice of outages in the notices tab of the BOINC client, only in the monthly roundup after the fact, when the information is useless.

If you visit Settings: Communication Preferences, what options have you got checked for In-App Notifications? I've got all but the two "Research Project News" items ticked, and I usually seem to get outage notifications..' I can't remember what the defaults were, and I can't remember whether I had to tweak the settings to get to where I am or not; might be worth checking on, though. |

Checking the World Community Grid Forums regularly has it's benefits. . . . It certainly does Sid2. ahem .... I live here I just hadn't the things checked to get notices under my notices tab, and had I not checked this post I would have been without this small but important improvement of my life.  So, yes! Do check the WCG Forums regularly - so much is going on  |

Thanks alanb1951 but I'm not sure it should be necessary. They used to put notices of outages as administrator-only sticky threads at the top of the forums page.
In my opinion this was a better system, or maybe have the two in parallel. |

Greetings everyone,
The kernel updates are still progressing, however they are going slower than anticipated. Currently the website is operational, but the BOINC functionality is currently offline. It's taken so "you don't have to do anything" long, that my computer went out to the backup project, CPDN, and got Weather At Home 2 jobs and all threads. They take 22 fulltime days each. Will be back in August.
