WU's that don't progress

In have just encountered a number of MIP WU's that don't progress and keep resetting to zero - both SCC and ZIKA WU's progress and increment perfectly (all on the same PC and concurrent) - has anyone else noticed this???
I have aborted these after a morning without progress.
It seems to only have happened recently (ie WU's dated for return on 21Oct - so far - just about to try 22 Oct WU's to see if they are any better)…...

Re: WU's that don't progress

I have recently seen some heavy work units (500-600 amino acids proteins being studied in these ones) and these actually take even up to two hours on my machine to generate a single model. So, because Rosetta (as far as I know) checkpoints the WUs only when a new model is generated, there are no checkpoints in these WUs. Make sure to set the option "Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended" so if for any reason you suspend BOINC (or it suspends itself, if the cpu usage external to BOINC is over the treshold you set) they will not restart. If you already set this option, I do not know what could be going on with your WUs, but probably the WCG techs will help you as soon as they see this post.

Re: WU's that don't progress

I have also noted that they are now incrementing progress in 20% steps - it's an unwelcome departure from the previous norm!!!

Re: WU's that don't progress

And it's affecting WU's dated for return on 22 Oct too....

WCG Techs - have you altered the configuration of the MIP WU's by any chance???

Re: WU's that don't progress

The progress thing is also related to the length in amino acids of the proteins being studied I think. In most of the work units progress typically increments in 5/10% steps if not less. WCG Techs are not altering the MIP WUs configuration, it's just that since this project aims at predicting the structures of a lot of proteins, there is some diversity in the WUs as a consequence of the differences in the lengths of the proteins.

Re: WU's that don't progress

I've just aborted 2 WUs and unsubscribed from the MIP project. The time to complete kept blowing out until the WUs were unlikely to complete in the 10 day deadline. Then when I stopped BOINC and restarted it they started from zero again (after running for 3 days). So I'm not confident that my limited CPU time will be able to make a contribution. To me it is important that projects let contributors make good judgements as to whether to participate or not - time to complete is key information.
