I noticed yesterday that on the "My Contribution" page, I had 3 returned for a total points of about 10,600 points. That's a little over 3.000 per WU. That doesn't match up with the "Results" page that show about 400 to 500 per WU granted credit. What's up with that?

500 CREDIT on the Result page is I think still 3500 POINTS on the MyContrib page. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Greetings,
We have modified and updated the credit per result. The limit is not based off 600 anymore since we have work units that are taking more than 24 hours. That is what caused the issues in the past. After reviewing the logs, it looks like ARP1 was hitting 600 often, it is not doing so anymore. Thanks, -Uplinger |

500 CREDIT on the Result page is I think still 3500 POINTS on the MyContrib page. Correct me if I'm wrong. What????? The MyContrib page is showing 3000 per work unit instead of 500 that shows on the result page. I don't have enough points in total on the results page to equal the number of points on the MyContrib page. as of the 12;00 UTC update the data on the MyContrib page shows 6 results returned for 20,139 points. That works out to 3356.5 per result returned. OK, Evidently, the WCG 7 point differential is applied at the MyContrib page not on the results page.... OK, Evidently, the WCG 7 point differential is applied at the MyContrib page not on the results page.... Correct. The My Contributions page is in WCG Points (BOINC credit x 7ish) while the Results Status page is in BOINC credits.---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by supdood at Nov 1, 2019 3:00:17 PM] |

The My Contribution page shows (WCG) points, the results page shows BOINC credits. [Err, that's what they SAY.]
1 credit = 7 points. QED. It's still a pain having to remember this, but I can't see WCG 'cutting' everyone's score by switching from points to credits, so let's just try to remember which is which. |

Honestly everyone would still be on equal footing, so to speak, if they did a conversion back to straight BOINC points. I like getting rid of back-end customizations that make upgrades difficult.

Just a thought...
----------------------------------------May be, a way to 'Fix' these issues it to do like some other projects do, I'm thinking Asteroids at the moment, they allocate 480 points/credits to each work unit, no matter how long or short. This, may indeed appear unfair on the face of it. However, in a very short time, it evens out... so fast computer, slow computer or otherwise, each WU gets the same points/credit. Everyone knows where they stand!

Everyone knows where they stand! I suspect this might be the only WCG project where this could work -- the computations seem to be fairly consistent whatever the initial data, but that doesn't seem to be the case for any of the other projects, even FAH2 and HST1. You mentioned Asteroids, and I note that other projects such as CPDN, MilkyWay@Home, Einstein@Home and various "mathematical" projects that have consistent computation patterns already follow your suggestion. And, indeed, it would seem sensible for this project too - the only issue would be working out what constitutes a fair amount of credit in the first place. However, I don't know whether the WCG server mechanisms would allow fixed-credit scoring for some projects and not others, so I suspect this may just be wishful thinking. Cheers - Al. |
