pentium G3420. I understand wanting to have as much impact as possible - but that not only is a weak, old processor - splitting your cores like that would mean that core would be constantly switching between the 4 different tasks. If you want to increase your impact, you can download BOINC on your android devices, or encourage others to participate. However, based on my limited experience with WCG and BOINC - splitting your cores like that is not the best idea, based on the limits of the hardware. I could be completely wrong, but I'd bet your CPU would be too busy babysitting between tasks which are designed for the whole CPU, and ensuring it is splitting itself as you needed. Again - please correct me, far more experienced Crunchers - but I believe your CPU will have a larger impact if you don't force it to split its resources like that. ![]() |

World Community Grid: Notice from BOINC Your app_config.xml file refers to an unknown application ''. Known applications: 'mcm1' The error indicated the science app mcm1 has not been downloaded i.e. as yet no tasks for this science have been assigned to the client which will cuase the science app to be fetched as well, on the fly. Tian Fan, I think it's really neat you're looking to make the largest possible impact with what you have, but I've got to echo the other posters.
Your CPU was weak for its time, and is now substantially outclassed by other budget options. Electricity isn't cheap, and it costs us far less to run a work unit than it's currently costing you. You would be totally justified in not contributing yet, saving the money, and getting a more powerful system. I'm sure I speak for quite a few posters here when I say that if you put together a budget for a computer with a strong CPU and are ready to buy parts, we'd be absolutely elated to help you find the right parts for the right price. If you're not comfortable putting them together, there's certainly a PC repair shop in your area that's struggling for business and would be delighted to get the job. For a starting point and to get some ideas, I recommend looking at Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs at PCPartPicker.com. They can run the most projects at once for the lowest price and the lowest operating costs. |

Focus on one project or one WU is more effcient for ur CPU and will make you feel much better because you can get more credit in a short time. That's what I do with my old PC with Intel P4 CPU
