I run 50% CPU (4 threads) on a Dell Optiplex 990 box with a i7-2600. I can go to 75% CPU (6 threads) on MIP and FAH2 before the fans start to kick up. On SCC, I can only run 50% CPU before the fans start to oscillate. CPU heatsink is clean and the box is in a cool basement.
----------------------------------------What generation i7 do you have in your Mac? Have you checked temperatures? i7-2xxx (Sandy Bridge) does run a bit hot.
