I came across a comment and, having had similar concerns, I wonder how may people walked away when WCG started refusing to acknowledge past efforts.
----------------------------------------WCG's policy of removing all results of inactive members has made me put my resources where they are more valued. Can you imagine if the Olympic games, Formula 1 or any sport in fact, removed all records of past participants if they did not check in with them at least every 3 years? then a reply: It's only their interpretation of those regulations which is at fault. Their lawyers just played ultra safe to protect IBM's finances. For my part WCG are the stand out organisation here in that nobody else has been so dismissive of past efforts. Does this decision need revisiting before folks realise they are a throw away part of the greater effort as far as WCG is concerned? Before WCG is weakened beyond repair? ![]() |

Before WCG is weakened beyond repair? if you need a permanent record of your contribution, you are more than welcome to save it via screenshots or copying and pasting, or keeping your WCG account active? Is this really that big of a deal? ![]() |

It would be nice for my son to be able to point me out to a friend and say "That's my dad, he did this when he was alive"

The new WCG Terms & Conditions are the most onerous BOINC has ever seen. Their public relations are circling the drain.

Suppose the weekend gremlin's are out in force. The driver is GDPR and sort of the whole world is taking the European rules as a guide, or copy 1:1.

In 2018, some of us had long discussions with WCG regarding GDPR implementation.
----------------------------------------The main problem stays in an overinterpretation of GDPR requirements by lawyers. I am an European and I strongly support GDPR, however I fight regularly against people and companies who overinterpret the rules. I use to interpret rules (specifically pharmaceutical regulations) in my daily business, without being a lawyer but an engineer. Clearly, regarding GDPR, many people do not have the courage to remain reasonable instead of only advocating for a "super safe" (and highly restrictive) interpretation. The most simple way to avoid OldChap's concern would be to ask the user for its approval to keep the statistics data available even if s/he does not contribute anymore for any reasons. Cheers, Yves |

Just read "World Community Grid Terms of Use" dated May 25, 2018.
It all looks like normal legalese BS CYA talk. It should be translated into people talk... and WHY ARE THEY STILL USING ALL UPPPERCASE? It's so 1960s when uppercase was the only way to have something stick out in a document made with a typewriter. We have bold and italics and fonts today. Where does it say: "Dedicated crunching violates IBM Ts & Cs"? |
