Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

My Haswell 4690K in Linux downloaded several of these and one is running on the iGPU HD 4600. This system received the double precision errors in the previous test. Only 15% done at this point, but looking better than before.

Well, I hadn't noticed that the "Remaining (estimated)" time at the start was 57 seconds. A little over an hour in, it was aborted with

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Well, my iGPU task made it without the time limit error despite the low time estimate. Time estimate was as said 1 minutes 2 seconds. Real crunching time became 38 minutes 28 seconds.

iGPU CPU times are as always very low, in this case the CPU time was only 1 minute 34 seconds, or 4.07 %.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Are the Nvidia work units the same size as the AMD work units?
On my GTX 1650 Super (Win10), they take 3 minutes
On my RX 570 (Ubuntu 20.04.1), they take about 9 minutes.

I am a bit surprised the AMD is not faster, as it often is on OpenCl.

Also, while both run cool at 50C, the GTX 1650 Super takes only 45 watts, while the RX 570 takes 81 watts.

(I am further surprised that a lot of people post how well or badly their cards run, without even specifying what they are, or the OS).

Whoops! Edited my post to specify OS

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

The elapsed time limit is set by:

<rsc_fpops_est>3165033234540.000000</rsc_fpops_est>
<rsc_fpops_bound>126601329381600.000000</rsc_fpops_bound>
(from one of my Windows machines)

'bound' is 40x 'estimate', which should be enough. But - @Uplinger - you might need to widen it even further for safety, until we get comfortable with the characteristics of the GPU app.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Hi,
With the new beta, the percentage display and the time calculation work strangely for me.
The WU is processed up to over 90% in a few seconds, but then drops back to almost 0% and then takes about 1 hour.
Linux and Windows 10 with Intel GPU.

I saw the same thing on my AMD Vega 8.

The estimated GFLOPS is around 3,100 for these tasks compared to above 200,000 GFLOPS for the previous betas, hence the wrong time estimates.

I saw this as well on my AMD RX 480 (Windows 10).
The percentage went up to 45% in ~50 seconds. It corrected itself back to ~5.0 % soon after those 50 seconds.
I did not see this on the 2 laptops with intel/NVidia setup.(HD530/QuadroM2200 Win10, HD530/960m Win10)

And it also looks like the AMD tasks are depleted, while there are still new Nvidia tasks downloading to both laptops.

Not very important but maybe its a bug that all of my tasks claimed 0.0 credits?

Besides of that everything seems fine.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

The time limit error seems to affect only the iGPU of my AMD A10-7850K. They did not happen before.

Another question I have:
That same machine has three GPUs: 7850K iGPU, 1050Ti and GT 710.
BOINC runs WUs on the iGPU and 1050Ti simultaneously, but it does not want to try to run on the GT710, despite it being available. Are the WUs assiges specifically to a certain GPU when they get downloaded ot why would it not try to run any on that GPU?

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Forget about the credits for now. They're working on the credit issue for the GPU tasks, and it will be resolved when this goes into full production. Until then, we'll probably not earn much/task, if anything. But then, what can you buy with WCG credits? laughing

Edit: And with that said. I do think we run out of work now, all 25,385 work units gone, poof. Beta with GPU goes very quick.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 12 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

uplinger,

Is there an app for Intel GPU on OS X? I can't get any work, and I can't tell if the problems is that there is no app, or if there is some other issue on my end.

Thanks.
