In the backroom (is this a word that can easily be misunderstood? It makes me think of Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side ("In the backroom she was everybody's darlin'"). Anyway, I'm digressing ...) I found a desktop: it has an "AMD Athlon II 160u processor" and an "NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Integrated", according to the sticker on it.
https://nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx says: Product Type: GeForce Product Series: GeForce 6 Series Product: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 On a forum elsewhere (Slashdot) someone says: "A 6150SE runs around 850MFLOPS. An intel HD 4600 runs around 432GFLOPS." The manufacturing date is also mentioned: 2010/03/13. Would this iGPU be capable of running OPNG? ![]() Adri |

No, that's a very old GPU.

I would be amazed if the Athlon was capable of booting Windows 10 to try it out :-)

AMD Athlon II 160u processor is an AMD AM3 K10 processor with 64-bit support and meets Windows 10 minimum standards. However, with only one CPU at 1.8 GHz is will be mighty slow...

the 2nd core may be unlocked! and hope it is a good one. Have an AMD Phenom with two disabled cores and a motherboard that allows them to be enabled. However, that results in strange errors, even when reducing the clock-speed and increasing the CPU voltage a little. I suspect mine were disabled as a result of factory testing finding them faulty, rather than good ones disabled just to meet demand for that particular SKU.

I had an AMD Sempron 145 that got unlocked to a dual-core and Phenom X3 720 that also unlocked into a quad-core.

Thanks Falconet for jogging my memory re. enabling cores.
----------------------------------------Last tried about 10 years ago with my AMD Phenom II X2 550. The system was running Windows 7 then. Motherboard is a GA-MA785G-UD3H, stock cooler. After making sure I had an up-to-date full disk backup - tried again. The machine is currently running Windows 10. CPU 3 is definitely faulty. With it and CPUs 0 and 1 enabled I can boot to Windows desktop, but before I can do anything much it crashes, hard. Reset button time. However with CPUs 0, 1 and 4 enabled, it now runs. Windows 10 thinks it is an AMD X4 Phenom II B50, even though only 3 cores are enabled and running. Stayed up for awhile without locking up or rebooting, so have set it to work. Have the 3 CPUs running at 100% and temperature stable around 66-67C - will see how it goes... I wonder it the OP's system allows him the opportunity to try?

Thanks Falconet for jogging my memory re. enabling cores. […] I wonder it the OP's system allows him the opportunity to try? I'm still considering getting the iGPU on a more modern system to work, they are all running Fedora 33 and that seems to be a problem, because all I get is "No usable GPUs found". One system, an Intel i7-8700 desktop, is showing: # inxi -G The other one, an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U laptop, does this: # inxi -G To be honest, I don't know where to go from here. Shall I give up Fedora 33 on the laptop (or the desktop) and replace it with Ubuntu? This page here (from 12-02-2020) seems to have the solution if you're running Ubuntu. EDIT: For my desktop, this page at Linustechtips seems to advise to update the BIOS. [Edit 1 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Apr 1, 2021 3:11:09 PM] |
