So I know that this project requires OpenCL 1.2, but I have a feeling that's not the only thing.
----------------------------------------I have two GPUs in my BOINC rig, a FirePro V4900 and a V7900. The V7900 works fine, and has been processing workloads as expected. The V4900 seems to just sit there idly. I know that the V4900 doesn't have double-precision floats (FP64), which I believe may be the problem. The weird thing is, sometimes I will see two different workloads process at the same time, and they're both making progress even though the V4900 doesn't appear to be doing anything. Sometimes, the project will get to 5% completion and then just suddenly disappear, leading me to believe that the GPU is failing to process and it just abandons the workload. I've had issues in the past with the V4900 for milkyway@home because that requires FP64, but in that project, the workloads would just fail immediately - it didn't even try to process. I wonder if maybe VRAM is the problem? The V4900 only has 1GB. Anyone know any further info of this? [Edit 1 times, last edit by schmidtbag at Apr 30, 2021 8:30:21 PM] |

Double precision is not a requirement. During BETA, some hosts (mostly Intel IIRC) were getting some errors due to a lack of double precision floats but those errors were fixed in the application code and haven't been reported since.
----------------------------------------OPNG uses very little VRAM so likely not the issue. What do the result logs say for the tasks that the V4900 runs? AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 2 times, last edit by Falconet at Apr 30, 2021 10:05:35 PM] |

Seems there's some other worse problem with the computer because now it fails to boot into X11. I guess it was just pure coincidence that I encountered such a failure at the same time I joined this project.

It might be worthwhile to check your power supply. A failing PSU can cause all sorts of random problems. Also, if your motherboard has old-style electrolytic capacitors, check them for bulging tops, leaning, and goo.
If it's the caps, motherboards can be recapped, but that does require a bit of work and equipment. Also, if you had to have your motherboard recapped, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the PSU as well. |
