...and don't forget having to scroll for your project and/or device depending on the length of entries, then scrolling to the bottom to see the status boxes and apply filters button because of all that empty space on top and everywhere. Oh, it's pretty.
----------------------------------------On a laptop about 1/3 of the screen is just about empty. The top 3 blocks could be only one and no taller than the search filter and download block. So we could see more of our stuff. That's 1 or 2 clicks for selection(s), 1 for apply filter plus 2 or 3 scrolls for a total of 6 interactions whereas it was 2 or 3 interactions. ...and don't forget having to scroll for your project You don't need to do that. Now you can click the lens and type (a part of) the name of the result(s) you're looking for, e.g. just typing 'arp' in the lens filter yields all your ARP results. That was just one click and no scrolling. |

I also don't like how there's no drop down box for "forum"!! God knows how I found this page. I couldn't find it for the life of me on the WCG page. Why not have "Community" --> "Forum" Simple! I don't understand why that simple change has not been done yet despite so many people having asked for it for weeks now. I don't like that there still no drop down to check the server status like most other projects. I never understood this either. Also, finding the computing preferences/settings page is quite harder than for other projects. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 5, 2021 12:26:52 PM] |

Just with the badge icons. They are so ugly and meaningless, you can just remove them altogether now, they are totally useless and rather distracting... Ralf ![]() |

Bring back the phone booths, and ban all cell phones. It was better back then. The further back, the better.

Just with the badge icons. They are so ugly and meaningless, you can just remove them altogether now, they are totally useless and rather distracting... Ralf I'm confused - what removed functionality? -- if I want to see (say) ARP1 results I go to the results page, click on the filter icon, select Africa Rainfall Project from the list of Projects then click on Apply. I can also select other controls at the same time... The main difference I see is that you have to click to get the filter panel in the first place (which is presumably something to do with making the site more phone/tablet-friendly...) The lens is useful for separating OPN1 from OPNG, as well as for looking up specific tasks. And as for the badges -- whilst a lot of people have piled in to say they don't like the change there are also people who have said they do like the change, so I don't think there's going to be a situation where everyone is happy (as I doubt they'll ever support both sets of badges simultaneously!) Now, if you want to complain about the lack of easy forum access, I'll join you; however, I have a set of bookmarks for things such as the forum page and various common result pages, so I'm not too worried by it. Having bookmarks also avoids the scenario where some results pages lose track of either your filter settings or the items-per-page value if you navigate back to them or hit refresh... For what it's worth, a caveat about the new filters - if you decide to use the Server status, Outcome or Validation status filters, only select from one of them at a time! Cheers - Al. P.S. Change is always accompanied by a learning curve -- I'm still trying to learn... [Edited to slightly reword something...] [Edit 2 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Oct 8, 2021 6:47:40 AM] |

Here's another way to look at it - would anyone be unhappy if they did a complete return to the old website and badges? I'd be all for it. Sure there are some new features that would be lost but I found the previous layout far easier to view. Take the Overview page for example. Now I have to PageDown 4x to see all the information that was available on one screen.

----------------------------------------I suspect that the majority of folks whose major focus was the "My Contribution" page of the old site would agree with you about that! The new Overview page is (to my eye) a classic example of how not to construct a web page -- it has too many sections, given that it has no option to move (or remove) the sections one doesn't really want/need and no sidebar or other means of rapidly locating a specific section. Also, the top part of it (with the large blocks containing little information in large fonts) seems inappropriate for users of non-mobile devices! I avoid the page completely (see also final paragraph!) Unfortunately, having separate front ends for mobile and non-mobile devices seems to be a dying trend; that's understandable from a maintenance standpoint, but not every site gets (or should that read "not many sites get"...) the "one size fits all" look right. I rather suspect that the new site design was a "work in progress" that may have been prematurely "frozen" as a result of the Krembil move -- the start of the new site development apparently pre-dates knowledge of that! Hopefully, once the dust has settled a little, pages like the Overview will become more widget-based, at which point I think a lot of the complaints may have less justification! I doubt we'll be going back to the old site format, so I think we'll just have to wait and see. Regarding going back to the old site... The old site was probably based on older software technologies and would have required a major reworking at some point; whether that would necessitate a new look and feel is something we can argue to death :-), but the trend towards newer users probably visiting from phones and tablets would probably mandate some sort of change. By the way, for a dinosaur like me, change isn't always welcome as it makes me change the way I do things! But as a dinosaur who can write code, I already had scripts that used the available APIs to get data equivalent to that available on various parts of the old web site in a form convenient for me, so the only parts I visited with any regularity were results pages and the forums. Hence, my concerns (or the lack thereof) are unlikely to be those of the majority... Cheers - Al. P.S. In the interests of fairness, I've just accessed the new site for the first time using a tablet, and the Overview page makes a lot more sense on a tablet with ease of scrolling, et cetera. It's still not right, but... Indeed, the whole site looks nicer on the tablet in landscape mode - forums are more or less unreadable in portrait mode. I'm not even going to try from a mobile phone!!!
