Hardware Recovery Update (old)

The website has been restarted and we are working on rebuilding the science database so BOINC can restart soon.

https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/article.s?articleId=780

Edit: As of March 27th, this thread will be closed and we ask that all discussions of our hardware recovery process will be moved to this thread instead. New updates will be posted in the initial post of this thread. Thank you.

Great. Looking forward to getting my sitting room warmed up again.

Any idea how soon "soon" is?

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

"Scotty, what in the blue blazes is going on down there in Engineering?!"
"Captain, I've got one impulse engine workin; but the rest will take time!"
"Dammit, Scotty, we've got numbers to crunch!"
"Aye, that we do. But if we don't get things right, we'll crash the whole thing again fa' sure! We had ta' cross-circuit to an auxiliary system that wasn't exactly designed for th' mess we're in. And that's assuming nothing else breaks."
"All right, Scotty, do your best, and keep me posted! Kirk out!

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Thank you for the update. I would be interested to learn about what the move of data to the (borrowed?) recovery storage system means going forward. Will you need to plan to release it and migrate back to your original system, once fixed?

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Hello - no - once we recover, backup and restart - we will start moving to a new storage system (with warranty). We will be able to use it for some months to come. That should give us improved performance (SSD drives) but also more reliability

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Indeed Sgt Joe - but - there are so many things on a to do list - hopefully we will get out of the troubles soon - get more resources - so we can start expanding and improving the WCG.

Thank you for the patience and support
