This is perhaps not the right place for this question I have for some time got the notice: World Community Grid: Notice from BOINC This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ How do I fix this, is it http or https and do I have to remove this project and rename it? Gretar Hi Gretar, this has been a longstanding issue and you should just ignore it. This should not prevent you from crunching properly. A bit more frequent information would definitely be appreciated... Ralf Hi Ralf, according to the tech team these download issues should be transient errors like we've seen recently and should only be a temporary issue. We're trying our best to share news more frequently as to not keep everyone in suspense. I'll share more news when I'm given it. |

Well, that's going on for 3 days now, and it has gotten to the point where it is more than just annoying having possibly hundreds of WUs sitting on retry/backoff. Not everyone has the time//ability to baby-sit and manual retry them. This is far more of an issue on our side (the volunteers doing the crunching) as folks on your end might think. It seems the issue actually has gotten worse, specially with sending out huge swath of OPNG WUs, probably up to the point where those constant retries of hundreds of files (just for a single host/user!) might actually contribute to worsening this situation...(hundreds of files, for thousands of users, that's 100,000s of additional connections the system on your end has to deal with) Ralf ![]() |

One thing I did notice though, was I added another pc to my farm, and the Boinc agent quickly recognize the new pc name, But no crunching stats There have been no stats on WCG site for the 3 months that they have been sending out work again (officially for testing), and that is for existing hosts in the system as well... ;-)Ralf ![]() |

Well, they stopped sending out new OPNG tasks, so for now the http errors should mostly be gone. Only a few resends coming in from time to time.
----------------------------------------That's one way to solve the http error of course, stop sending out new batches. Geeze....... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Sep 21, 2022 6:21:26 PM] |

I don't think that this is/was a deliberate act to stop the overall download issues. The same thing happened on Monday at some point as well, it seemed that OPNG had been stopped. Only to start up again a few hours later, after what looked like the feeder having been filled up with new work in the meantime. And yes, I am with you, stopping to send out WUs doesn't solve the problem, specially considering that probably not even half of the average number of users/hosts are currently active compared to the time before the move... ![]() Ralf ![]() |

I've been encountering download issues today in which the transfer tab shows dozens of file downloads all stuck with status Download: pending (project backoff hh:mm:ss). Is this a known network problem?

Is this a known network problem? Hi gdlxn, this is an issue that a lot of other people have been running into as well. This is typically the result of bandwidth issues on our servers so it's not a problem on your end. Best advice I can say for now is to keep hitting retry until it might work. |

@ gdlxn
There's hundreds of posts about the download issue. Plenty of them in this thread alone. Not to mention all other posts about the download problems, in other threads. Sometimes i wonder if people read forum posts att all, before jumping on the keyboard to post. SMH ![]() 1. Search the forum for same or similar problems. 2. If not found when using the link Recent Threads, then you can post about your problem. Now I have decided: People do not search or read the forum before posting about their problems. <sigh> |

I switched back to WCG on one machine but just noticed it wasn't running anything because all the OPN1 WUs were stuck in download with the transient HTTP error. I keep hitting "retry all" and they start then stop, gradually trickling through but the waste of WCG bandwidth must be worsening the situation. I would leave them be but the back-off times extend and these are all re-sends on only a three day turn-round. Perhaps it would help overall if deadlines were increased from a week for both initial and re-send WUs. I fail to see what the urgency is in the current turn-round deadlines given we still seem to be in the extended end-user testing. Was out of the office for about 2 1/2h and when I came back, my programming machine had pulled another 25 OPNG WU, no resends, all _0's... ![]() Ralf ![]() PS: And while I was dealing with other stuff since this post, it just tries to download another 29 WUs ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by TPCBF at Sep 21, 2022 10:28:28 PM] |
