2023-07-28 Update (MCM1 work unit update)

We are aware that many users are not currently receiving MCM1 work units. It appears that this issue may be occurring as a Mac computer cluster retrieved many of the MCM1 work units as they became available, and copies of these work units were subsequently assigned to approximately 260 distinct Mac users. We are currently working on both increasing the number of available work units and resolving the issue of work units being assigned to a group of distinct users.

If you have any comments or questions, please leave them in this thread for us to answer.

Great. Now if you´d release that 500 year MCM badge, this would be a very good day.

Can someone explain this to me?

It is a bit inconceivable that a mere 260 MAC users would be able to monopolize the daily number of MCM units which, from the daily totals, is in excess of 1,000,000 units. At an average of about 300 years per day this would be in excess of 1 year's worth of processing for each machine.

I,too, do not understand.

Cheers

Yeah, that whole story doesn't smell right. Specially considering that they (WCG Towers) should have known about the problem days before the system went down to whatever data center outage happened 10 days ago... sad

Re: 2023-07-28 Update (MCM1 work unit update)

A quick look at the 'results returned' statistics page shows us that no mac-based exascale supercomputer has grabbed control of years worth of MCM work units. If that were the case, we'd see even more work done than usual.

We can all see the now-regular pattern when projects turn off and peter to nothing as queues empty.
