2024 - Any News on Progress

As the title says, as we're now into 2024 (and, if my memory serves me correctly, the project was hoping to be in a position to recommence work on this in the new year), are there any updates on progress?

I'm not looking for a 'exact date' (unless one is available), but some kind of inidcation (Q1, Q2 etc.), and as to the work that's going on in the background that'll allow this project to recommence.

Any news would be appreciated.

There was a post by TigerLily in the Project Status (First Post Updated) thread about ARP1. See post 693111.

Re: 2024 - Any News on Progress

Thanks Adri for pointing me to that - I had missed it. Hopefully, we'll get a more 'in-depth' update in the coming days/weeks, and then, shorlty after, a recommencement of this ARP project (its been awhile)

All I can think of is the poor PhD student whose graduation depends on this project's data. If ARP1 is delayed all this time, does that mean she can't finish?

Hopefully the PHD student, could use the data already done, and the methodology to finish their degree. We were getting close to finishing... the end (minus some redos on areas that are more complex) was in sight.

Re: 2024 - Any News on Progress

Hello everyone,

A small update on ARP is that we are currently in the process of moving the backlog of results to their new servers. We should be able to restart ARP1 on the grid once we can resolve errors in some generations of workunits that had begun to cause problems in 2023 when the project was put on pause.

Re: 2024 - Any News on Progress

The impression I had was that reducing the TimeStep fixed the problems when units stuck. Not knowing where those patches were, I would speculate that they were mountainous or storms occurred. Either being the case, it might be better to keep those patches on a reduced TimeStep.

It is better for them to run slower than not to run at all.

this is so true.

My main fear, is that with the climate changing so fast nowadays, that this doesn't/hasn't invalidated the results/the data - as we've come so far now with this project, that, as has been said, we're 'in the home stretch'.

it's not changing faster, we just talk about it more. the change is actually quite linear.
