Re: WCG downtime in December

The deadlines were extended and they should report soon. See the operational status tab at this link:

Re: WCG downtime in December

There was almost no real notice of this and now it seems that the re-start is delayed.

While there may be a good reason for the shutdown I might point out that having spent extra effort to ensure that my systems stayed up over the break I am frustrated to find that not only was this pointless but in addition they have still not re-started doing work.

I am afraid that I am questioning my further contribution.

Re: WCG downtime in December

I have been critical of WCG's lack of communication in the past. However, in this case, they did clearly post a notice the system would be down for almost a month. It is the first post in this thread. Yes, they are a week late on the restart from original estimate, which at this point should not be a surprise.

I am finding the Jurisica Lab link the best source for operational status. I'm looking forward to resuming crunching for WCG projects. Meanwhile, there are several other projects benefiting from my fleet.

Re: WCG downtime in December

Fair enough - there was a notice published, I accept that. However, it was posted on a forum rather than by pushing to the application - my push application was received a day before the outage commenced which I hardly regard as notice. Frankly given that there was not even a placeholder web page in place I formed the view that WCG had shut for good.

I don't spend all of my time looking at the WCG forum - this is only the second time I have looked at it and I have been a contributor for many years.

Its just a matter of common courtesy.

Why, given that the outage was not of Krembil’s doing and the delay in the restart is also outwith their control?

Krembil are an academic institution, part of the University of Toronto, and have little option but to use the SHared Academic Research Computer NETwork and data centre - it was SHARCNET that have let Krembil down, not Krembil letting you down.

Sorry, but your are completely wrong here.
Just as a couple others who already responded, I have been very vocal about the communication shortcomings of WCG, but this outage WAS announced for quite some time in advance. Everyone should have known this. The only thing that was on rather short notice was that they would shut down a day or two earlier than originally planned. But again, this was announced...
