The immediate thought on reading this ScienceDaily article was, that the Pope could approve of this, since a preservative is only allowed once one has caught AIDS ..... wonder if the Vatican has figured out whether HIV positive also falls in that category..... Probably. Strange things happened to Popes before the middle ages. They were then required to be celibate.![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sexually_active_popes

Microsoft shares source code with AIDS researchers
Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it has released to the AIDS research community the source code for four analytical software tools, a move intended to aid the development of a vaccine for the disease. The source code available as a free download from Microsoft's CodePlex Web site,is designed to use the software giant's machine-learning technology to sort through thousands of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) strains. Researchers hope to use the technology to identify genetic patterns that could help them train an infected person's immune system to combat the virus... |

German scientists have succeeded in snipping the virus that causes AIDS out of human cells, leaving them healthy again. The procedure is a breakthrough in bio-technology and fuels hope of a cure for AIDS. The laboratory procedure removing the AIDS virus used an enzyme, said Joachim Hauber of the Heinrich Pette Institute for Experimental Virology and Immunology in Hamburg. "We have rid the cells of the virus," Hauber said on Thursday. "No one else has done this before." He called it "a breakthrough in bio-technology." |
