I know it's none of my business, but I'm going to stick my neck out for the sake of the millions of people dying from diseases.
I will speculate a bit and say that I'll bet the vast majority of folks who are doing SETI are probably doing it because that's the crunching they started with, and either aren't aware of crunching for medical research or haven't been asked to change. Because I happen to think that medical research is much more vital and important than searching for signs of ET, I would like to encourage you to try to persuade the maximum number of folks on your team to switch over to WCG research. Trying to balance points for whatever reason might be fun and important for competition purposes, but the only thing that matters is getting the most important work done. I hope you will consider my comments in the spirit in which they are intended -- to benefit people suffering from diseases. ... plus, the HomeBrewers team is kicking your butt to the point of utter embarrassment. ![]() Cheers. Bill Velek So many of the other projects BOINC@Australia work are fundamentally important. I like Einstein the best, then uFluids, then LHC, then a couple of the others. The rest I do to help out the teams world ranking, keeps the members involved. I don't like Rosetta, although I do it to help the project beta testing and there are a few others that fit that bill too. Folding sucks, so I don't do that but I do most of the other protein ones. I would have thought Climate was more important than WCG because it affects everyone. |

... snip ... I would have thought Climate was more important than WCG because it affects everyone. WCG affects everyone, too. Even if you don't have a friend or relative with one of myriad diseases, the cost in both human misery and money for health care is staggering. Now, as for climate, don't tell me that you've bought into that whole 'global-warming' thing, have you? First, I have just bought a bunch of real estate a good distance from the ocean, at a very cheap price, counting on it becoming ocean front property in my old age -- so don't meddle. ![]() Cheers. Now, as for climate, don't tell me that you've bought into that whole 'global-warming' thing, have you? No, not really. The main reason I joined was to make sure they wern't trying to get a specific result. So far they are running tests on past climate so they can tell if their predictions are correct historically. Now the one run by the BBC, that looks like they already have a conclusion ;) |
