As Im new to FAAH, Im not up to speed on the system requirments and benchmarks. After loading up a couple of similar if not nearly identical Dual XEON boxes:
Same O/S, Same Minimal Services running etc etc. I've noticed the Memory usage is rather high or maybe I'm just not used to what the FAAH-5.09 core / client uses. It's leveling out at 1.18GB on both machines with all 4 LCPU's crinching or about ~ 295MB per LCPU. Is this High / Normal / Low ?? The WU's are named: faah0220_divercsity0890_x1hvk_01_03 Dont how the WU's breakdown but from the numbers onward, it seems to changes regularly. Just curious, as I have additional RAM i can install in the servers to keep them from Paging / Caching to the disks, as Im sure that a perfomance hit on speed. . |

That's normal. Most of it will (on a machine with less memory) be permanently paged out.

Ok .. thanks .. still dont want it paging as it's a performance hit, so need to add a bit of RAM to them.

You must remember that for each CPU, the full program is loading into memory. For FAAH that's ~282MB * 4, which is ~1.1GB right there. However, as has been discussed in other threads, after a while the OS notices that some allocated RAM hasn't been touched and will eventually page it out permanently, freeing up some physical RAM. Thus the total RAM footprint after a while will be closer to 400MB.
----------------------------------------Unless you have at least 1.5GB of RAM, you're likely going to hit some significant paging, at least until the OS swaps out the unused memory allocated by FAAH.

Hi Alther,
Thanks for the info. This is a similar situaiton to f@H on -advmethods large WU's. This give me a base line to work from. All dual core / HT processors would need at least 750MB < my as well go for 1GB sticks > and any dual processor machines as you stated ~1.5GB or more. Looks like I will be needing a bunch of 1GB RAM sticks ... ![]() . |
