System Requirements

Hi all,

I have access to quite a few laptops that have Pentium I and have 48 or 64 MB RAM. I know that the minimum RAM requirement is 120 MB for this project. Is there any way I can run this or any other grid computing project on these laptops without a upgrade?

I just wanted to make sure before I dispose of the laptops.

Thanks!

Hello karthik_running,
Here is the list of current distributed computing projects: http://distributedcomputing.info/projects.html
Some of them can use your computers. Look them over and decide if you are interested.

biggrin Re: System Requirements

You could combine the RAM for some of the laptops to get it up to the requirements.

I have a PII laptop that I misplaced the charger for. Wish I could get it running on the grid. Maybe I'll buy one of those universal laptop adapters. It too only had 64 MB RAM, but I took some RAM out of an old compaq laptop that isnt working anymore.

Re: System Requirements

According to the requirements page at http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/requirements.php, SIMAP (a BOINC project) can run on 64 MB, as long as you have high speed Internet access for results that can range from 1 MB up to 25 MB in size.
