Hey Akela, not often one asks me a question beckoning a reply in the forums so here it comes. The Echidna has long sharp spines and will curl into a ball whence a percieved threat is detecteed. Not even a Fox or Wedge Tail Eagle can invade these little fellows. The thing that caught me with this critter was it's calmness and that it was not phased by me taking it's picture.
BTW - The Echidna is an egg laying mamal (monotreme) akin only to the platypus. When I get a real life pic of a platypus I will post it here, a Cocanaught Exclusive. Have a good day Cocanaughts!!  Bigger here |

Bigger here Thanks for the update Orakk, this animal is indeed very similar to our North American porcupine execpt it has one live baby which is born with soft quills which harden within a few hours of birth, nature is a wonderful thing! |
