Hi!
I have joined the team Denmark (because I'm from Denmark...:)) I would like to contact another team, or just the captain of that team. There is another team with people from Denmark called Danmark (which is the Danish way of writing Denmark). I would really like these 25 people to join the 77 in Denmark. That would also make us the 5th or 6th team in the world. I cannot accept that our neighbour countries, Sweden and Norway, are ahead of us due to this team confusion. :-) Is there ANY way to contact the team Danmark? Posting a message here for them is probably not acceptable. |

I asked this question before within the MOT thread but no one was able to assist
![]() Is it possible to contact other WCG members other than through the Forums. (Compared to the total number of members, only a very small % seem to use the forums). I would like to get in touch with my other Country (Sri Lankan) members taking part on the WCG .. |

Guys --
Probably the best way available to you would be to first check to see if the team has a web site available. You may be able to make contact through that (for example, on the "My Online Team" website, the team captain can easily be contacted by email). If this is not the case, another alternative would be to see if the team has a thread in the Teams Forum and look to see if the team captain has allowed his e-mail address to be shown in his posts (indicated by an icon that looks like a sheet of paper with an envelope in the bar just below the post where the time and date of the posting is shown). If that isn't the case, post in their team thread. If there is no team thread, you could start a new thread in the teams forum to try to make contact. |

Hi Lewis,
Thanks for the quick reply. I used this thread because I didn't want to start a new one and apologise for not making myself clear. I was hoping there would be some way of contacting individual members, not just a team. From what you have said, it looks like the forums are the only way this is possible but as I mentioned, only a very small percentage seems to use these .. Also, unless someone posts on a forum, there e-mail address will not be available, even if they have givne it in their profile. The other obvious problem is, you will need to check every post in every thread to see who posts !! Are there any plans to show / make available additional profile details of WCG members, like their e-mail address, if it has been given by the member? |

I know that a number of folks have indicated an interest in this. For what it is worth, I will pass your request on to the project team that run the World Community Grid. They may wish to move this thread into the "Suggestions and Feedback" forum, so watch for it if it moves. |

Folks --
----------------------------------------I got a response from the World Community Grid Project Manager. Here are portions of his response to me: As a general rule, we treat all member emails with the utmost confidentiality so we will never allow members to see another members email address on World Community Grid. It is also highly unlikely that we would ever allow members to contact other members through the use of the member name. However , we could someday add something to the registration process where a member selects a check-box for allowing other members to contact them and then allow for a way for that to happen. He then went on to comment on some related topics. They have, for example, received requests from team captains wishing to contact a member of their teams. What they have done here is checked first to see if that member indicated that they would accept e-mail from the WCG and, if they did, they have forwarded the e-mail address of the team captain (with the permission of the team captain, of course) and asked the member to contact his/her team captain. Of course, this process is very labor intensive and doesn't get done very quickly. He then brings up a couple of other possibilities: Another thing that could be done with teams is that the team captain can post his or her email address in the Team Description and ask members to initiate the contact if they are so inclined. For geographies, that would be a bit tougher. One thing we might consider is that in the country information: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewCountryStats.do?countryCode=BT we could list all the teams that contain the country name in the team name. If the team captains for those countries published his/her email address in the team description, the members from that country could start collaborating. Hi Lewis,
Disappointing but understandable .. I don't think the suggestion re geographies will work as only a small % of teams will state country info. Also, this will only work within teams. The tick box at registration, which I trust will be available as a profile option throughout, seems the best suggestion and sounds like a fairly straigtforward fix. Can you please see if WCG will do this. Current members can edit their profiles if this is set up and new members will get the option at registration. Many thanks, |

I will pass your comments along to the Project Team. Please realize that they have an awful lot to do. They have indicated the intent to deliver a Linux version of the software this year which will be a major effort and a lot of other requests for change have been given a lower priority. |

Hi, mb04.
Decided to have a peek. Google "Advanced Search" return: http://www.google.com/search?as_q=denmark+&am...tesearch=&safe=images This included: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=J15XNJBR9N1 Which had this on the statistics page: The team of contributers from Denmark. (Contact per@bitempire.com if you want to provide a web page for the team) There are enough links that you have to be able to get in touch with someone, mb04. If nothing else, go to another Grid site like Seti and see what they have listed. Good luck. ![]() |
