No!Not again!!
----------------------------------------Today I destroy 2 jobs of faah.... BUT,I tested my memory all the night,6 hours, 6 rounds of test,no error occured... I don't really know which one is culprit.... I used Contact us,got a reply, told me to test cpu and memory, I told him my computer ID and so on, until now I havn't receive 2nd reply... although hardware might be consider, I don't find any serious error from it.... Is there any other software problems could cause my fault? ![]() |

Hi Kaoh.
Yes, it could possibly be a conflict with a security program you are running. In particular, issues have been reported with AOL Security Centre, and McAfee 8.0. What do you use? |

Hi Kaoh. Yes, it could possibly be a conflict with a security program you are running. In particular, issues have been reported with AOL Security Centre, and McAfee 8.0. What do you use? NOD32 2.51.26 sygate firewall pro 5.6 3408... == AOL Security Centre?I have never heard about this... I copy all the error AIDS logs, total 10 failure...pity!! ![]() |

Having used BOINC now for over a month, upgraded also from 5.213 to 5.4.9, i can corroborate that your firewall (i have Kerio Personal Firewall) might well be the issue...no bad experience with Antivirus (Avast). After Q&Aing with the resident experts here, set up firewall rules to allow traffic for RPC and port 31416 as well as code injection type traffic for BOINC.EXE, BOINCMGR.EXE and wcg_faah_autodock_5.09_windows_intelx86. Since doing the former, the GUI does not freeze anymore either (touch wood). What was disturbing was, that the firewall simply at points in time would take stranglehold, but go no warnings.

I'm not familiar with the Sygate Firewall, but I have a few pc's which run NOD32 as well as BOINC for WCG and there have never been any problems caused by NOD32. It's the best antivirus out there if you're asking me.
----------------------------------------Try to disable Sygate for a while (and maybe run the Windows Firewall in the meantime) to see if Sygate causes the trouble? ![]() ![]() |

Even though I removed sygate or
----------------------------------------enlarged my page file to 1G(staff replied to me to do this...), it doesn't solve the problem...I got 11st error just now... Looks like FAAH jobs don't like my machine... ![]() I want to ask a question:Could graphic card cause the problem? Because I suspect that after 2006/1/31 I upgrade my VGA card from FX5200 to FX5500,I started getting errors from 2/24 to now... This is only my guess. == Disappointing.... ![]() |

The graphics card won't be the problem. It's conceivable that the drivers are causing a problem. If you want to rule this out, then boot in safe mode and see if your crunching goes more smoothly.
Apart from further troubleshooting, you have three options: 1. A nice clean system. Reinstalling your operating system may solve the problem, although we will never know what the real problem was. 2. Install the UD agent and run it in parallel with BOINC. UD and BOINC actually share CPU and behave very well together. 3. Alter your profile so you work only on the HPF project. Hope this helps. |

Maybe I found the problem....
----------------------------------------I just send successful AIDS work unit.... I have 2 memory modules, one is kinston 512MB,the other is V-Data 512MB.I removed kinston one.And I completed work without error. Culprit maybe memory slot or memory module.... memory test may not be reliable. I trusted memory so much before..... Anyway, looks like I finallly resolve this stupid problem.... ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for keeping us updated.
It is good to know when problems are hardware related, so we can rule them out when troubleshooting future issues. Generally speaking, it's best to source memory in pairs. It should work with mismatched memory, but problems like yours are not unknown. Can you just confirm which memory test failed to spot the problem? |

Can you just confirm which memory test failed to spot the problem? Do you mean test program? I use Microsoft windows memory diagnostic... It is really a tiny error.....I get system crash once 3-5 days. I don't perceive it is a hardware problem...now I know... And why do I confirm kinston one maybe has problem? because before I bought V-Data one,I had got errors many times... ![]() |
