If you are an IT Professional please consider joining the Technician's Guild Team. Bring your best hardware to the fray and let's put the processors to some good use. This proteome folding project may even find a cure for EndUsers if we are lucky.
One Caveat--be ready to prove you are a for-real IT tech when challenged. NO wannabees will be tolerated. If you do not know what the OSI model is or cannot calculate a subnet mask in your head (or know a lot about something equally technical) just move on and find a team for EndUsers. WANLord. |

Too late!
All the real geeks are with Team User Friendly :-) OSI model? Setting the bar low! Real Programmers: If you can't do it in Fortran, do it in assembly language. If you can't do it in assembly language, it isn't worth doing. All the wannabees are with slashdot, and all the "been there, done that, wrote the compiler" geeks are with UF, but I'm sure you can carve out a niche in between. I wouldn't normally do this, (recruiting in someone else's thread is the height of rudeness) but you sound like our sort of guy. Why not just combine forces with us? You might find our name and reputation useful when recruiting outside of WCG. We would love to have you. Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck. |

I confess, I'd forgotten about the technophiles in your team. Truth is, geeks are everywhere.
But own up: your team doesn't sell itself on geekhood. :-D |

Thanks for the tip.... I can generally make a box do anthing that is not:
A) Laundry B) Dishes C) An attempt to divide by zero. But web development is just not within my purview. More of an AD and LDAP kind of guy. Lookin' at protocol packet headers and frames and all that rot. I'd really like to get together with some other techtypes and maybe a beancounter type and talk about getting a non-profit together which would solicit funds to purchase high-end CPU hogs to crunch this client in royal fashion. And non-profs are SUCH sweet gigs... know how the bottom line gets to zero each year?....... Nothing super-duper, maybe some dual chip mobos with Gbit cards and quad-core CPUs, when they come out. Something to crank out points in rapid order. Maybe even a cluster. It also helps that I reside near Destin, Fl., a rather target-rich environment in which to find geriatrics interested in postponing their own mortality by any plausible means. And this proteome folding project DOES kind of smell like a backdoor cure for all which ails ya. It would be rather nice to think that we helped lay the foundation for the knowledge which may find a cure for everything. Or at least helped it along the way a little faster. If anyone out there is interested I can provide a nice fat pipe to the cloud and the juice to keep crunching for awhile. I can be contacted at WANLord@mchsi.com. |

Well, Didy, (May I call you Didy?) I've always had a preference for the "Big fish in a little Pond" environment, but thanks for the offer.
It would appear you are a coder. Got a lot of respect for anyone who can code for a paycheck. I certainly cannot. When I go into a 'Coding Storm', I call all my friends and let them know it's starting (not to come over as I am unfit company during these intervals), leave the phone off the hook, and, 18-20 hours later might think about getting some food or sleep. This does not fit in well in a corporate environment. I have written a little assy in my day (back in '94) for an agricultural commodities speculation firm in S. America. They wanted an encrypted bisync protocol for xmission of corporate time sensitive data. There are only three reasons to code in assembly: 1)Speed 2)Speed 3)Speed Time to finish rambling, so I will bid my adeiux in assembly-- mov ax, 4bh int 19h |

Well, Didy, (May I call you Didy?) Oh dear - you've gone and done it now....... ![]() Geez; I hope I've not offended the chap. No intention to do so. I cannot help but wonder if he chose his moniker from the literal meaning; ie; two fingers, or, from the ancient blind philosopher who wrote a controversial missive which caused quite a bit of consternation in the land of Omnia. If the latter is the case, I would probably conclude that he is probably not a "Follow the leader" type and ascribes to a nonconformist mentality. If from the former, it begs the question as to how his gf/wife/so feels about the nickname. ![]() In any case I hope I've not offended him, if for no other reason than that he appears to be somewhere between Denizen and Titan level on the Net, judging from the mountain of Google hits I got off the name query. |
