During this time the website will have a couple of short periods where it is unavailable. There will be a longer period of about 90 minutes where the BOINC system will be unavailable. thank you for your patience. Kevin In other words, do not run your PC (PC's) all night this evening? ![]() |

No, you should be fine. BOINC has an exponential backoff algorithm. This means it picks a random time to try again if it fails to contact the servers. If it fails again, it waits a longer time. This stops all the clients hitting the server all at once when it comes back up.
The default 0.1 days between connections should leave enough in peoples' queues to last out a mere 90 minute outage. |

Your BOINC client will automatically handle this condition and if it attempts to contact the servers during this period it will log a message and then automatically retry a short time later.
----------------------------------------The message was just to let you know that there would be an outage and when you see the messages it is for a known and planned reason. thanks, Kevin [Edit 1 times, last edit by knreed at May 12, 2006 3:24:07 AM] |

Ahh, I see. IT Recruiters by nature, question many "anwsers" by "those in charge". An old joke (for example) for IT Recruiters when they get a nebulous "job order", is to ask the "Hiring Authority": "Just hum a few notes of that song until I get a hint". ![]() Edit: Just saw knreed's post. BTW, with the default being 0.1 days, getting more work units (just in case) would be 2.0 days? Yes, I know, silly question. The WGC Wiki leaves much to be desired. You can tell that they are not Technical Writers. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at May 12, 2006 3:27:20 AM] |
