A curious claim

Figure this:

Workunit Name Status Sent Time Time Due /
Return Time CPU Time (hours) Claimed/ Granted BOINC Credit
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 Pending Validation 06/18/2006 22:08:16 06/19/2006 16:24:08 7.44 0 / 0
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 In Progress 06/18/2006 22:06:07 06/25/2006 22:06:07 0.00 0 / 0
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 Pending Validation 06/18/2006 22:05:19 06/19/2006 14:00:48 9.88 54 / 0

Someone turning in a WU before ever running a benchmark thinking

Re: A curious claim

My guess would be it errored but the science application returned a success code. It's not impossible.

Re: A curious claim

This is very unusual. There are a total of 12 results (out of 142,959 results currently in the database) with a successful outcome but no claimed credit. All but one of these results are from the same computer. The computer has no benchmark data in the database. I will send a message to that computer and ask the user to force the benchmarks to run or to update to the 5.4.9 client.

Re: A curious claim

Okay Kevin.....the quorum is 0, 54 (a slower machine @ 10 hours) and mine which sits in queu for scheduled sending @ 61. Logically 54 will be the middleman awarding that claim to all.

Curious, but could it be someone that copied the BOINC directory plus subs to a new machine...you might want to ask him.....read of people swapping disks and moving the whole shabang over....something lost in translation.

I think Sekerob should have "Eagle Eye" appended to his Senior Cruncher title for spotting that one applause

Re: A curious claim

Turns out, this machine with 11/12 zero point claims, send in a "invalid" this time....

Workunit Name Status Sent Time Time Due /
Return Time CPU Time (hours) Claimed/ Granted BOINC Credit
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 Valid 06/21/2006 07:00:17 06/22/2006 08:09:44 5.60 69 / 69
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 Invalid 06/18/2006 22:08:16 06/19/2006 16:24:08 7.44 0 / 0
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 Valid 06/18/2006 22:06:07 06/21/2006 06:58:12 8.59 79 / 69
faah0652_ d418cb287_ x1hpv_ 00 Valid 06/18/2006 22:05:19 06/19/2006 14:00:48 9.88 54 / 69

I thought that 'invalids' would still get points awarded equal to the 'middleman' determining the quorum, but seemingly zero are given confused

Re: A curious claim

Don't know where you got that idea! :-)

Invalid results are errors, and get zero. Nothing. Nada.

A few people have disputed this policy, but it seems fair to me.

Re: A curious claim

Can you please point me to this nop nada policy...cant locate, which is why i asked! Also, can you dig out the results list for ey241_04. It had 7 copies send out and last i saw it had 4 inconclusives, 1 error and 2 in progress....it dropped off my results status list, so clueless how that ended up.

My opinion is, that if someone crunched and hands a result in which has all the marks of completion, sends it in and gets a pending validation, the work was done and points should be awarded as determined by the valid quorum....something to that effect i read. If it is nop-nada, than how does this jive with how the UD points are awarded?

thx

Re: A curious claim

But BOINC gets twice as many points as UD, triple if you know Truxoft BOINC. It's never gonna jive. If you read your Cruncher's Contract carefully you won't find anything that requires BOINC and UD to jive. Same for returning invalid/inconclusive results so nop-nada stands. Who cares?

So, how do you feel about the price of bolgna in Bologna?

Re: A curious claim

Hello Sekerob,
Units disappear from your Results page 4 days after they complete. In this case, the work unit completed with 4 Inconclusives. BOINC pays off for Valid results. UD pays off for anything that is not an Error. These are different scoring systems. Perhaps UD would also restrict the payouts the same way if it did not award points as soon as the result was returned.
