Thanks for the assistance. I see in concept what you were doing in that even though I didn't study the coding character by character to understand the reality of it. (My old MS-DOS 3.1 and even D-DOS skills still are useful, dog-gone it! |:-)
----------------------------------------Let's me toy with this other approach first and then go to yours after I've exhausted the possibilities of this. What I'm eventually looking for is a way that other ATOs will get the banner automatically once they join the team. I think your way may give me that. I don't know if the present way does yet. The reason I'm making such a to-do on this--and I hear a thunderstorm coming in over the mountains to the west of me right now and that may delay things a bit if I want to shut down--is that this group at present has only two members, and I have proposed to the team founder's association that I go on a membership recruiting effort across the entire fraternity. I await their reply on this. Membership is one of my strong suites, you see. So, Y'all are not wasting your time on just one guy. I could represent thousands if the initial group gives me the go-ahead on my proposal to them. In fact, as soon as I get this banner thing together I am proposing participation to my genetics genealogy group with about 100 members. We, ourselves, are working on a cutting-edge approach to preventive medicine using our own disciplines and resources--and our end products will fit very nicely to the end products of the MCG science applications. --Really! We've been into this for nearly four years now. Check us out at http://www.geocities.com/teamliddelldna , or at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Liddell_et_al . Those two tell you only a very small part of what Team Liddell et al is doing--for much more is in private websites for member security reasons. And this is the reason I'm so excited about your stuff. Any of you can reach me through that site if you have a hankering to. Frankly, I kinda hope some of your scientists do. We have our own array of academics from across the world, as well, despite our small size, and (modestly) I tell you that we have had some accomplishments already. Yeah, definitely a storm on the way. Later. I'm trying until and if the storm gets too violent. Again, thanks. Jim Liddell [Edit 9 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 4, 2006 11:56:55 PM] |

Hi, Graham--
Thank you for that wonderful hint. I really need to wait until I get with the parent alumni association's officers before I take this any further but if that provides an automatic banner for a new member without his having to do anything, that's totally cool with me. I don't like the stats chart though. I like to keep things simple, you see. And it catches my memory that you reduced the size of the banner yourself. If you did, I will need to rework that as the type would be too small for the commentary text. I can very easily redesign the banner to be more shallow within the width and still get all the text in fair-sized type. But thanks again very much for your work there. I know it will be worthwhile. Hey, Graham--
You know? I just rethought my last post. That stats thing could be useful because it is the same width as the banner I would redesign. The banner in that width would eliminate the stairstep look and finish off the design very nicely. I think you used another avatar provider--that's OK with me although I'm not familiar with them. But I think the stats chart needs to be in a slightly subdued blue for contrast. I'll work on that angle, you've done enough right properly for me/us. Again, many thanks for your graciousness. Your own hosting?!
Wow--a step too much for me to try even with the Hairy Ape not being allowed to sleep or even doze. I'll think about this whole thing while working with that alumni group. That'll take a while, I suspect. The storm is waxing mean and I need to quieten things down on this end. I'll be back in contact somehow. Many thanks. About 1:15 your end. Time for our baskets, friend. This has been a fruitful day for me/us. I hope I can repay all this. Jim Liddell |

Please remove the pathlink data from your post. I am very security conscious about things being exposed. Check your other posts in this thread as well, please.
I would not have been able to get through all this without that post and I thank you for it greatly. But it's time to cut away that data. Jim Liddell |

What are you talking about? The storm is passed for a few hours. More on the way according to the map. The sixth post down in this series has the pathlink data in the open. I'd like to have you edit that post to remove the data or part of it at any rate--say the file name and the numbers. Substitute XXXXs if you wish so the casual reader can follow what we discussed during the thread. Frankly, this thread is most likely a good teaching tool for others to use to the same end as I have. Added comment. I am aware of excessively-sized signatures. They will eventually clot your memory if not kept within reasonable size. I deliberately reduced pixel counts as well as overall file size during the creation of the ATO sig-banner. A very good FREE softwear to do this is IrfanView--a Google giveaway program that is very very capable though a little tricky to use until you play with it some with COPIES of original artwork. (Beware of copyrights!) Always use copies of original so you don't spoil anything. And save a project in stages so you can go back to some point and start over if you wish. (I use "you" here incorrectly as I am addressing the readers who go through this thread.) Best wishes for now. I'll be back. And thanks to all of you. Graham, this reply is for you as well.
