Problem With FAAH Work Unit

I'm currently running a FAAH work unit on my 2nd PC, it gets to 49% complete and then drops down to 47% complete and the process starts again.

It has been toing & throwing between 47 & 49% for atleast the past hour and a half?, has anyone heard of this happening before?, should I dump the work unit or will it resolve itself?

Running UD on an AMD Athlon 2400 512mb DDR

Cheers in advance

Re: Problem With FAAH Work Unit

Don't worry, this is normal.

The progress on FAAH is only an estimation. Part of this work unit needs a lot more work than estimated. Be careful, though! If you interrupt crunching now, then you will lose all work since the last checkpoint. Normally this isn't an issue, but when a small part of the work unit is taking a long time you stand to lose quite a lot.

You will get a lot more points for a very large work unit.

Here is one that is closely related: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=7913

cool Re: Problem With FAAH Work Unit

Cheers for the responce, sorry it took so long to get back to you, I was on my way to work when I wrote the thread.

I'm afriad to say I dumped the workunit before leaving (erring on the side of caution), but for next time, I know to keep with it.

Thanx Again biggrin

Re: Problem With FAAH Work Unit

One of my AMD64 computers has 512Mb and it's crunching FAAH just fine. The percentage remaining to completion is only an estimate, and wanders around. The percentage executed is more accurate.

(Hey! There's a teammate. Just keep crunching. We hope to see you post one of these days in the Vulture Central thread in the team area...)

Re: Problem With FAAH Work Unit

blushing wanders or wonders around? Made a post attempting to identify the percent areas where one would see these back and forths like 47.3 to 50.0 and 31.x to 33.3 etc. Can last for hours (on a semi fast machine)...cancelled twice before it dawned

confused Re: Problem With FAAH Work Unit

now is 4% after 20mins

A puzzle indeed. FAAH is a very reliable project. It sounds like something in the software environment. But I have no idea what.

Re: Problem With FAAH Work Unit

We should not forget, that soon starting with gaming, video/radio stream, dvd play, databasing, VIRUSES & SPAMBOTS, anything with a higher than lowest priority, that sucks CPU time, it will slow down UD, even though its wall-clock is ticking.

Real progress from a time perspective can be seen in the Taskmanager. Doing a bunch now, UD has 5.5 hours showing, but in taskmanager, 1 hour. Long as that CPU clock moves on the process, the program is functioning. If the process in taskmanager stops altogether, call Houston (no consult the forum, as all proper cancel methods are well described)!
