Hi.
I am using boinc and participating in several projects. Objective : have some nice screen saver doing something useful. Unfortunately, at present, wcg don't do this. Mainly 3 problems: - no screen saver; - check pointing doesn't feat the screen saver mode ( 1:30 h of the lunch time is not enough to cause a check point ); - WU fetch is not possible with the proxy at my work ( because it uses http CONNECT instead of POST or GET like the other projects that work ok ); So, I will try wcg again in the future and see if things are a little more 'for me'. If you want a good screensaver, I really suggest you look elsewhere - BOINC screensavers and grid screensavers in general are painfully boring. So, pick a more interesting screensaver that doesn't strain your computer too much, and run BOINC in the background where it should be.
See, you can have the best of both worlds... |

WU fetch is not possible with the proxy at my work ( because it uses http CONNECT instead of POST or GET like the other projects that work ok ); Over at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?dev=1 it says: BOINC version 5.5.9 for Windows Known problems : If you use a proxy server, please hold off upgrading for now. We have a fix in the works for proxies that use NTLM authentication. So check back occasionally to see if your proxy problems have been fixed. Lawrence |
