Hi Orca
Glad to see your post. I took the "Water Cooling" off a Gamer to change it for crunching. (My Eleventh one.) If you get Bit by the "Crunch Bug" running it 24/7 will be the rule. How many PC's will more likely be an issue too. LOL Don't say you weren't warned! Big welcome to the other new team Members too. Keep On Crunch'n Robert |

I can't gridify more machines in the meantime 'cuz I'm grounded, so it's a matter of enlightening more folks of the power of their idle cpu time via the internet...
I've written a lousy article suggestion to the local press, talked to 2 friends, one of which has 8 computers(and counting) and thinking of how to exert a zombie influence over the ex-school computers... Don't quote me on that, though. |

I didn't phrase the suggestion properly. I wanted to ask the editor of the newspaper to see if he/she can run an article on the world community grid to generate interest and participation from the largely kiasu singaporean IT society.
Zombie? Oh, turn a computer into one that secretly works non-stop for a cause other than its intended purpose. Nobody will know wcg is even running. I'm aiming either the library, which I have access to, or a computer lab, which I have a key for. Nevertheless, I can't step out of my house to goto said school that I graduated from! David, I suspect that member is a friend who I asked to join. He said he'd pop into the team I was in, but I'm not too sure. His username is Jslayer or something like that, and he's fascinated by proteins floating around, rotating on his computer screen. |

Hehe.... you know, wishful thought can be like that. In the end, it never gets done.
![]() Of course I won't do all that. Maybe I can talk to my biology teacher, who's interested in such research, as well as the computer depertment head, when I return to school next month. And if I make it run on library computers, it will be with the permission of required teachers; I was the head of the library computer department and president of the school's computer club last year. I may have graduated, but I still have some say ![]() Anyway, it's about midnight here on my side of the world. I'm about done crunching for the day. My second 24/7 computer should churn out 1-3 more results before the server update, and maybe I can configure my primary computer to wake up early in the morning before the stats update to sign in another work unit. And btw: Can someone tell me how to work the team's irc (from the webpage), if it works? I keep getting timeouts on my chat client. |

Yay, the chat room.
*sits in there waiting for someone else* As a footnote though, something strange happened this morning while my machine was crunching while I was asleep. It froze up an hour into waking up. If it hadn't frozen up, by the latest stat update I would have breached the 1000 point barrier. It has crunched for 3.5 hours, was 68% complete, I woke it up at 3:30am local time (bios alarm clock), where 8 am local time is our GMT 0 hour. It had 4.5 hours to crunch 32%. Upon resetting after finding the frozen computer, the timing was 4.5 hours into the work unit, indicating it had been crunching for an hour before crashing, and was 80% complete. Had it continued, I'd be out of the newbie league. ![]() Ah well, crap happens. |
