Is there a BOINC client for FightAids@Home

Greetings,

I have been using BOINC to manage Predictor@home,
and wondered if there is a boinc client for fightaids@home -
either planned or in the works.

Or, should I run Boinc for a month, then run WCG for a month?

Thanks, Jay

PS
My thanks to those writing and testing the code
(and answering the forums...)

Re: Is there a BOINC client for FightAids@Home

You can use the BOINC manager for the projekt fightaids@home.
To do that you have to use the manager option assistance- sign new projekt(or something like this;I do not use a english manager).
Than you make the input of the "World Community Grid" URL, because fightaids@home is hosted by The WCG together with some other projects.
With the option "My Grid" on the website of WCG you can make, after you was registrated as a member of the projekt, the configuration that you only want to get work from fightaids@home.
That´s all.
You don´t have to install the WCG client, it is all running also under the BOINC manager, with the exeption of the screensaver.
I have to say that the information politic on this project is worse in this point, so I´m not wondering that there is some irritation.
Hope that this could help you.

Attach to www.worldcommunitygrid.org

Use your WCG username and password (if you have an old version of BOINC, you will need your account key instead).

Go here for full instructions.

Since I am still a relative neophyte to "crunching" I do not understand the advantage or benefit of running BOINC over the standard issued client from WCG.

Re: Is there a BOINC client for FightAids@Home

Here's the high spots:

- It will run as a service, even while you are logged off.

- It will run on all your cores or processors.

- It has detailed log files and informative error messages.

- It is available for Windows, Linux and Mac.

- It can be deployed site-wide with very little effort using Group Policy, cloned desktops or whatever system you use.

- It has advanced preferences for fine tuning your performance.

... and that's why I recommend BOINC.

Some really cool, helpful, humble folks have put together an incredible website for you. It's called WCGwiki and it has an excellent article that compares BOINC to the UD agent (the standard issued client). Check it out, it has lots of info for newbies.

Thanks Dagorath for this info.

I just installed BOINC and i found it more useful and it won't waste some of my cruching time spent when it suspend the task. I run it together (UD & BOINC) on my 1 CPU laptop and divide my CPU 45% each but all memory is almost all eaten 1.1/1.3 i let it run for couple of minutes and both run smoothly but i got worried that i might lost my current WU with UD @ 95% if my laptop crash.i'm on dial-up that why i want to get at least 2 WU and i can suspend the WU at anytime without wasting crunch spent not like in UD you have to wait to reach check point so you won't waste crunch time sprent with WU.

Re: Is there a BOINC client for FightAids@Home

There is no reason to run UD and BOINC at the same time.

Doing this just uses up your memory and doesn't get any more work done. If you have multiple processors, or you want to queue some extra work, then BOINC will do this for you. Go to the BOINC device configuration page. Here there is a setting for the maximum number of processors it should use, and the amount of work to queue. This second setting is called "Connect to network about every x days". The default setting is 0.1 days. Try not to set it too high. 0.5 should work well for most people in your situation.
