Re: Problem with options in a windows 2003 server

Sorry, I don't have TS to test on.

Why are you using a global_prefs_override file? It is simpler to set the options through the website. (Don't confuse global_prefs_override.xml with global_prefs.xml!) Also, you have configured multiple venues. Be careful that you have applied the right device profile (venue) to the right device.

Re: Problem with options in a windows 2003 server

Hello Didactlos,

I am not using any xml file; in post 5 a user ask me to check some parameters in that xml file and I posted the full content of that xml file to ask him if I should modify it and where and how and why, but he has not answered yet and I have no modified any xml file; of course I set my options in web site.

I do know that options are correctly configured because if I move mouse in CONSOLE or I press any key in CONSOLE, BOINC stops working; the problem is ONLY with TERMINAL SERVER users and only in Windows 2003 R2 Terminal Server Server (in Small Business Server 2003 Premium BOINC stops running when any user login)

I dont know any of the files you mentiones: global_prefs_override.xml nor global_prefs.xml: dou you think modifing those files problem can be solved?

Re: Problem with options in a windows 2003 server

Once upon a time ran Oracle Finance thru a Terminal Server which is as if u are really working on a remote system. Speculating the remote machine W2003R2 may not recognize this as local user activity, particular because its configured as a terminal server? Have u addressed this at the BOINC support forum: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_forum.php?id=1 ??

Update: Following post mentions something about BOINC needing some keyboard/mouse action:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_text_sear...rver%22&bodies=Search
BOINC Manager has to be running for the user who signs in to a terminal server session in order for the keyboard/mouse detection code to work.

This took me 3 minutes to recon... hope this ends the long wait ;>)

Re: Problem with options in a windows 2003 server

Hello jgpastrana,
I do not know anything about Terminal Services but I am wary of '<max_cpus>4</max_cpus>'. If your CPU is a hyperthreading Pentium 4, then this allows 2 threads to run, taking up double the memory and crowding the cache. If you are worried about responsiveness, you should not allow more than 1 thread to run a floating-point intensive program. After all, you only have 1 FPU (Floating Point Unit) per core, so running more than 1 thread gains very little speed but will slow down any other program quite a bit. If you set all those lines to '<max_cpus>1</max_cpus>' it might improve your computer's responsiveness. If you are using an AMD non-hyperthreading CPU, this does not have any efect.

Re: Problem with options in a windows 2003 server

jgpastrana, you posted the wrong file. The file that Sekerob asked you for has to be created manually, so I was surprised that it existed. Just a miscommunication, forget about the files.

Sekerob's latest idea sounds promising. How did you install BOINC? As a service? If you didn't, and BOINC is running as a different user when you log in, then it is conceivable that BOINC Manager is not passing user activity to the running instance of BOINC.

Is BOINC Manager even running when you log on through TS? Can you send us a screenshot of task manager so we can determine what processes are running under which account?
