I shut the program down once after about 52 min of processing to play a game. When I started it again, it said 0 processing time, 0 percent complete. Do you have to leave the program running until it is complete with the work?

Yeah, Im having the same problem too, I shut down my PC for a while and when I start the program over again, everything stats anew.

Yes, check a few other forums, if you close the program you lose the data. Why that is I have no idea.

Hmmm, I think the client keeps the information. I shut down for a while yesterday to play HL2 and when I started back up, I still had the 50% I'd completed before I signed off.
How are you shutting down? I shut the program down by minimizing the client and then right clicking on the world community grid logo in the taskbar notification area... it's not accessible when the client is opened on the desktop. |

Yes, according to the WCG help file, you must minimize the program to exit:
To exit the Agent, the Agent must be minimized. For more information, see Minimizing the Grid Agent. It seems imperative that users must minimize and exit the program before shutting down their computer, otherwise processing may need to restart from scratch. I too do not know why the program would be designed this way |

Maybe I'm not understanding what you peeps are saying.
----------------------------------------![]() But my experience so far is fine, I have shut my PC off 5 times now, while busy with my first work unit, only to find that it just automatically continues where it left off. Right now its on 96% complete, yay. When shutting down I just do it, I haven't exited the WCG Agent once yet. My system is a AMD 2400xp , 1 GB DDram running Windows XP SP2 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 19, 2004 6:38:53 PM] |

I just had a short power outage, probably since the weather outside is very windy. It rebooted my PC without any shutdown procedure. And, the past 50 or so processing hours are now erased. I am starting from zero percent again.
A tip to the people that developed this client: why don't you store the results somewhere on the HDD and use what is useable in cases like this? Just because many people (processor power) are expected to join this WCG project, doesn't mean that this system does not need optimization and auto-restoring capabilities, right? ![]() |

I remembered a few days ago when I minimixed it to the task bar > right click > Exit and then I restarted the computer the whole program stated calculating from biginning again. Which is why I'm not shutting down my computer anymore till this WU finishes. |

I put the program to "sleep" when I need to shut down and I have had no problems automatically restarting from the point of shut down when I resume. <dataman>
