I recently upgraded to the BOINC agent and it has been so frustrating. About half of my work units seem to be causing errors, and even the ones that are successful only seem to be getting credit for half the claimed points.
I just don't get why there are so many errors. My computer runs every other application fine so why can't it it compute these work units? Is there any easy to follow steps to get your machine to work better with the BOINC agent? I tried searching through the forums and the only thing I seemed to find was to turn my screensaver off. (Which did help by the way) I just feel like this shouldn't require so much work from the end user's standpoint. There's too many people, including myself, that are donating computer time that produces completely useless results. Is there something that can be done to lower the amount of errors so that user's machines are used much more efficiently? |

What operating system do you use? Vista?
By the way, the UD agent had errors too - it just didn't bother telling the user about them. |

I recently upgraded to the BOINC agent and it has been so frustrating. About half of my work units seem to be causing errors, and even the ones that are successful only seem to be getting credit for half the claimed points. ..... Hi John: I've been running BOINC now for several years and once in a while I do get some random errors but nothing like what is frustrating you. I have learned to do a complete shutdown every Monday (every two or three weeks even once a month is OK) do a Win clean-up, defrag, and then bring up everything again. Since Ilve done this routine haven't had any trouble. I will soon be bring up Linux on another machine so don't know about that system yet. I just don't get why there are so many errors. .... Don't feel lonesome for sure we have all conquered our systems problems. Persistance is the key word here and asking for help does work. Please remember that some of the helpers are in different time zones (Europe, Far East, etc.) so while your in frustration . . . . . they may be asleep unaware until next time the eyes pop open. :>)I just feel like this shouldn't require so much work from the end user's standpoint. Is there something that can be done to lower the amount of errors so that user's machines are used much more efficiently? Click on the BOINC Manager Icon and then go to messages. Scroll up to the first dozen lines and then copy the lines using the contril key and then select the individual lines you want copied. If this fails copy all. Paste these lilnes into an editor like notes or something leaving the editor w/info in background until you have what you want copied WITH ANY COMMENTS YOU ADDed finished. Then come here and send a reply with the stuff you think we need to help fix/locate the problem using a paste (from the editor prog) into your reply message. Thanks for crunching and sorry about your frustrations. PaulT |
