I'm currently running the Linux 5.10.45_i686 version of Boinc from the WCG download page on my dual Opteron 64 Mandriva 64 bit Linux workstation. I'd like to upgrade from the 32 bit client to the 64 bit client, which is available for download directly from the Boinc website, but is not listed on the WCG site. Is this possible to do, and if so, what issues might I face.
-Thanks |

Don't bother. The science applications are only available in 32 bit, so you won't get any benefit from switching.
The reason WCG don't provide 64 bit binaries is because the performance increase is negligible for the kind of floating point computation we are doing. So, WCG decided not to double the number of supported platforms, and concentrate on improving and maintaining the 32 bit versions. |

This is true of most BOINC projects, the most notable exceptions are ABC, primgrid, and APS. Even most of the projects that offer a real 64bit application show little increase in productivity over the 32bit version. |

Thanks for both of your replies. Looks like I'll stick with32 bit Boinc.

You can still run BOINC in a 32 bit partition on a 64 bit operating system.
----------------------------------------The real problem is to find 64 bit drivers for all of your hardware on that 64 bit OS, especially OLD hardware. I decided to stay with a 32 bit OS and 32 bit BOINC for now.
