Oh wow. Came on to to get all carried away about passing 50 years of crunching and at current rates RAMMIE will hit #1 in all team charts inside 6 months, could even pass me before Fraz does.
Good job I am not the jealous type as it will be great to only be third because of active members. Would not even be upset to drop out of the team's top 10 because everyone else was doing so well. |

I'm not too bothered about my position in the rankings. I'm just happy to see such a large contribution to WCG research causes. If everyone who drops a few quid in the collection jars of charities donated as freely of their spare PC power WCG could help far more worthy research causes.

I will just call them "with RAMMIE" pages then for now. Quite agree, even a short term boost is good. Having flat-lined graphs, irrespective of just how big the numbers are, is good for all the wrong reasons as it shows we are all still going for it but our happy band is static. New team members like RAMMIE can help us shake things up as it is a spur to try and encourage new people into the WCG 'family' to keep up the momentum. As a Consultant who is in new companies on a regular basis I do try to enlighten people (without preaching) and can normally get one or two people to at least look at the pages and see what we can achieve together. I do wonder if it would be possible to drop the odd article into the media though. The Register tags this as one of 'their' teams but it is a long time since there was any mention of the work that WCG does. |

I found out about WCG from an article in el reg which is the main reason I joined the Vultures. That was quite a while ago, but it's the last mention from them that I recall seeing.

NO NO...stay, please (and tell all your friends)
Considering how high we sit in the team size list we are actually fairly small despite all our recruiting efforts so even short-term members are welcomed with open arms. As Widdershins alluded to in a recent post, putting spare CPU cycles to work for WCG is a very simple way to be charitable but I am always surprised by how reluctant some people are to put in even that effort. Perhaps that is why I failed so badly when I tried to be a salesman, just can't get the right phrase at the right time and the one which gets used instead can sometimes produce the wrong reaction. Ah well, I hope this hasn't made things worse..... |
