Boinc support Chromebooks?

Just curious, can I donate by using a chromebook or does Boinc not have a web app for this?

Re: Boinc support Chromebooks?

Can your Chromebook access the Google PlayStore where BOINC is one of the apps?

Vishera, please let us know if you can get it to work. I've considered getting a chromebook, but wouldn't unless I could crunch with it.
Thanks

Re: Boinc support Chromebooks?

Hello ChrisR1964,
I was asking a rhetorical question. Of course Google supports BOINC for Android in the Google PlayStore. Vishera asked without looking. I was giving him a wakeup rap across the top of his noggin.

Lawrence,
I am confused and let me apologize in advance. Vishera asked about Chromebook and you answered about Android. I've done a little googling and have not found a clear answer if android apps will run on Chrome OS. Maybe with an emulator. What am I missing?

Re: Boinc support Chromebooks?

Since Chrome is based on Linux, it will more than likely have to go that route. I have not heard of anyone running it on Chrome, so you may be on your own in that regard.

Re: Boinc support Chromebooks?

If I want to 'hear' things, I check at Chrome's own Google ;>)

[If] Chrome-OS is what's running on Chrome-Books, it's not being identified separately at the Global -All-Project- OS overview, where apart from Linux a half dozen BSD flavors are listed: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/host/breakdown/os/

Over at the very first BOINC project, the Dotch version is mentioned in a thread on the same query, but as is known of Dotsch, it runs off a USB stick. At BOINCStats there's a Chrome OS thread: http://boincstats.com/en/forum/15/5143 where one jokes of a custom Linux version "Goobuntu".

The sum looks to be like as much niche as an OpenBSD install... If you want to do this, there wont be ready ports on hand, maybe some friendly help from those who were at the frontier where no man had gone before.

PS, if Android hit the billion devices, by late September [official] BOINC having reached 41K initial installs, but only 18K or so having 'remained' installed [source Workshop13 presentations], it does not strike me as there being any bit of traction to support the Chrome-OS platform over and above [low spec(?), in the cloud devices].

Re: Boinc support Chromebooks?

My mistake. I thought Chromebooks ran on Android.

rose Re: Boinc support Chromebooks?

Allow me to bump this thread a little.

The current batch of Chromebooks (Jan 2014) have Intel Chips and a Linux ChromeOS. Amazon (UK) say that Chromebooks are their current bestseller.

Phoronix tests one, an Acer C720, which produces very strong benchmarks.

Let me add one (1) vote for an eventual ChromeOS BOINC WCG client.

I don't have a Chromebook to test with, but does this work by chance? https://www.facebook.com/progressthruprocessors
