G'day All,
I was just wondering why is it that my WCG BOINC client is always running 2 workunits at once? I am able to force suspend one of the units (so that my CPU concentrates on a single Work Unit). However, this is cumbersome and requires manual intervention for every work unit (not really feasible when my computer crunches 24/7). I don't believe I've altered any of the major settings within the BOINC config manager. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Cheers, TC |

I don't know what your system is as you have not provided the important information needed for troubleshooting. However, the default settings in BOINC are to run 1 work units per core/thread in your PC. So, a dual core (no Hyper Threading) CPU will run 2 work units at a time. A quad core (no Hyper Threading) will run 4. A quad core (with Hyper Threading) will run 8 work units. WCG has no multi-threaded apps at the moment, so the behavior is expected.
----------------------------------------If you want to only run one work unit at a time and not use the CPU to its fullest, you would need to adjust your preferences within your BOINC client. Advanced view > Tools > Preferences > processor usage tab > On multiprocessor systems, use at most XX% of the processors > Adjust this to a percentage of the cores (threads) you would like to dedicate to BOINC ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ah yeah, that makes sense now. Thanks for the education. All good. I'll leave it setup as is.
