Hi All
----------------------------------------The bill I get from my power company is very complex with base rates, rates under 100 KW, rates over 500KW many different fixed charges and a few credits. I did a simple calculation for the first time this month where I divided the KW Hours used by the bottom line $ amount. I was somewhat taken aback that it came out to 17 cents per KW hour. It was a lot more than I thought. Just wondering what you all pay in simple terms. I'll start the thread. below. ![]() |

Based on my own measurements with a Kill a watt meter on several computers, I've observed the difference in a computer at idle vs 100% as they usually are while running BOINC projects, is between 100 and 200 watts. This means that a 24/7 cruncher does 8760 hours. Round this down to 8000 to simplify the math and allow for a little maintenance downtime and we get 800KWH to 1600KWH per year for one computer.
----------------------------------------This means if we pay .20 dollars for power, our cost is $160-$320 per computer. Most of us run many computers full time.
