Hey Ya, JC!
I beat ya this morning! Wow, my system is doin fine, averaging about three times it's old output. I think I will keep the Duron CPU, though, I don't have any of the problems crunching HCC work units, whereas many newer dual core systems are hobbled by the troublesome software in that project. It snowed up in the Bay Area hills the last two days! Brrrrr! How's the weather there?!    |

The Server is dead (about to be morphed into my granddaughter's game machine), long live Cloverfield! The monster that ate Colorado Springs! (New York tastes bad). Making a Ghost image so I can do quick restores if I need it, that should take a couple hours.
Well, I ran a quick 3dmark06 in 1280x1024 and got a little over 11000 points with no overclock (is that good for everything stock?). The second 3870 should be here in a week and then we can really play. Damn benchie software has so many options I can't begin to understand it. Heres the specs on the quad: Asus P5E motherboard, Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4-Gigs GSkill DDR2-1000, Zalman CNPS9700NT Cooler (what a monster and very lovely colors), ATI Raedon HD 3870 (soon x2 crossfire), PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750, CM Stacker Case from Coolermaster (old hardware but very roomie) and ATI 650 TV Wonder PCIE, plus all the other goodies that are attached. As always the ATI software for the TV sucks so I bought aftermarket stuff and its nice (Beyond TV), although I heard Sage TV is better, maybe I'll check into that. COMCAST-NAZIS are coming over tomorrow and will attempt to give me my hi-def channels. I'll do benches on request as soon as I get the room cleaned up from this build and the rebuild. I did see it averaging 40 minutes on the Dengue units, some 28, others an hour. Which is 10 percent faster that my 3.1GHZ 500 Black Edition. I did do one bench for johnny! Its the see johnny in the rear view mirror bench in a few months (just kidding). Call me we can do lunch! v/r k.t. |

Well say goodbye to the ATI HD 3870, died this morning after a reboot (after I wrote my ghost images).
 I put in a cheapo X1050 (needed a testing PCIE for building and troubleshooting anyways) in till about next Wednesday when the second card arrives.  RMA'd the first one this morning. It's better to have it die now than right when it's out of warranty.I thought I saw some graphic glitches when I was installing and rebooting drivers and other software. I have only had 2 ATI cards die in the last 7 years (including this one), for all the systems I have built and upgraded thats says something about how they are built. As long as you keep your case and all the fans clean stuff will last forever. But I think we are on track for 90-100 Dengue units a day, I will measure each unit for the next couple weeks, giving then a couple days at a time. Should be fun to see what this thing can do while I crunch, watch TV and browse the net. Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear Johnny.  |
