HPF2 on Linux / BOINC

Hello,

I'm noticing odd behavior on an HPF2 5.14 work unit. A lot of text is outputting to the shell running BOINC. The lines alternate

[INFO] pct=0.nnn (where n is a number incrementing by 1 for each line, currnetly up to about 0.70)

[DEBUG] getPCTcomplete(): _totalattempts: ## _maxattempts:## (more text I did not copy, ## is a number)

This is running on Fedora Core 5 Linux, fully patched as of last Saturday, the latest version of BOINC, AMD Athlon XP2200+.

Thank you.

Re: HPF2 on Linux / BOINC

Forgot to mention (sorry):

Boinc is run from a bash shell, "./run_client &". Output from BOINC is not re-directed, so all output goes to the shell.

Re: HPF2 on Linux / BOINC

Well, it is a beta. And given the past troubles with HPF2, it's not surprising they have some extra debug info in the production build (at least for the beta).

I'll remind the techs to use stderr, not constant file descriptors!

Yup!
I just did two WUs. I believe they both were HPF P2 but sure of only one. Processing ran for about four and a half hours each. Looks like we're getting closer to HPF on BOINC soon. Seems like the staff is putting in sweat hours. :>)

This is nothing to worry about. I simply forgot to remove that debug line prior to doing the build. The debug lines will be removed from the next build.

I use run_client & kboincmgr 0.2.4 - I clicked "Show graphics for it" and later "close graphics" and from 60% it changed to 100% & status: ready to report. I have now launched standard boincmgr and checked another work unit (quoted starting above: BETA_za293_00041_0) under boincmgr - the same:

World Community Grid, 15/02/2007 15:06:41, Reason: Unrecoverable error for result BETA_za293_00041_0 (process got signal 11)
World Community Grid, 15/02/2007 15:06:41, Computation for task BETA_za293_00041_0 finished

=================
EDIT:

We have suspended this beta test. There was a 10% error rate that was largely caused by the graphics. We will resume the beta test when this problem has been addressed.

Oh, I see...

Re: HPF2 on Linux / BOINC

Actually we will be resuming this beta test shortly (probably Monday). The issue with the graphics is proving to be quite challenging so we will be resuming testing with a version of HPF2 on Linux that does not include graphics. This will allow members to process work for HPF2 on Linux while we try to resolve the issue with the graphics.
