Can't set HCMD in device profile

The only way I can get this project into a device profile is to allow all projects. If I try to select it individually it gets cleared; if I try to select ONLY that project, I find on looking at the profile after I save it, that all projects were selected.

This came up because I'm working with a computer that has limited resources, but it has enough memory that it will download work from any WCG project if allowed. Using a separate profile worked well to limit it to the defeat-cancer project, I would like to add this project to it, as soon as the web site will le me! wink

Re: Can't set HCMD in device profile

I see you use BOINC. HCMD phase 1 isn't going to be released on BOINC. I don't know what will happen if you try and select the project in a BOINC profile, but that could be the cause of the odd behaviour you are seeing.

Phase 2 will run on BOINC, but isn't due for quite a while.

Duh, that would explain it! Too bad, was looking forward to this project; hope it becomes available via BOINC soon. Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll ask the techs if HCMD can be masked on the BOINC profiles, to avoid this confusion. I tried it, and it behaves as you describe.

Re: Can't set HCMD in device profile

yes, that could happen if you think that HCMD is also running on BOINC.... regrettably it looks like late Q3-07 at the earliest for phase 2 to come along on BOINC.

Re: Can't set HCMD in device profile

HCMD will only be enabled in your BOINC profile if you select all projects. However, you will not get any HCMD because it is not running on BOINC at this time.

Cheers

Re: Can't set HCMD in device profile

Hello cio_redulla,
I wonder when they will be rolling out Phase 2 of HCMD.

This is explained in the Member News announcement of Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10647
This project is slightly different than most of our other projects in that what we are launching is only Phase 1 of a larger project. We anticipate that Phase 1 will run for approximately 2 months. Then the researchers will examine the results in preparation for running Phase 2, which will run for a significantly longer period of time. Early estimates are that Phase 2 may start around August of 2007. Because Phase 1 runs for such a short time, we did not expend the resources required to run the project on both the UD and BOINC platforms. Thus, we are running Phase 1 using only the UD agent and will run Phase 2 on UD and BOINC. We know that this may disappoint some members who run BOINC but we hope that you can understand that preparing the software for a project takes two to three months and when the project (Phase 1) is only 2 months long, it doesn’t make sense to run the project on all platforms.
