Re: Machines reregister (typically) each time they are turned on.

We are using DeepFreeze Std. v5.60.020.1347, and I previously used a .bat file to save the typing. Now, I use the 'clone' flag and do the cloning with Acronis - I don't remember what version added the flag. Actually, I'm using the .bat to 'fix' the machines. It turns out that the 'instructor' machine did not have the problem - that's because I have to re-load DeepFreeze on that machine to make slight modifications.

We evaluated Pro when we started using it about 3 years ago - Pro was total overkill for our needs, and actually created a problem for us (I don't remember what anymore). SeniorNet has been providing DF to all of the learning centers, but they are possibly going to drop it in favor of the 'Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit' which would be 'free'. I evaluated this program for them - it works, but I found it more complex to administer. We intend to stay with the current DF until we are forced to upgrade to Vista - probably at least 1 year.

Have you tested with the Microsoft solution?? I can't think of any reason that it would be a problem with WCG, based on my limited knowlege of how it works.

I've never tried the cloning option. I have to complete the machines once they are imaged (Powerquest DeployCenter) and installing DF was my final step. The "clone" option was never there in the older versions, and it never worked for me so I stopped trying.

I've only recently been made aware of the Microsoft tool. I've not eval'd, and since we just went to DF Enterprise 6.1, I doubt I will need to anytime soon.

The one feature I'm waiting to play with in enterprise is the ability to, in one step, to thaw all machines at once, do my maintenance, and then freeze all.

I've only just installed v6.1 today, so I've not tested much yet. Given my history with DF and BOINC, I don't suspect I will have an issue.
